One more Mitsubishi template will become available soon(ish). This template will cover the Nakajima built Float plane version.

Thank you, eMeL! That will be awesome! We definitely need some A6M2-N skins!  :)

I made a short test today [12.4.2014] and did not see the error message appearing after pressing the preview button. All seems to be working fine now. Thank you. I will put this all through the true test at the latest when updating the thread, once I have the A6M2-N ready.

And on behalf of RDDR and me thanks for the kind words about the A6M project. It really was a great fun to do.

hello,

the templates for the 2 and 5 models have the upper section of the fuselage void of rivets as well as the dorsal section . Could you pls look into the matter and correct with link .
regards

I am sure eMeL had a good reason for not adding those details.
Some areas on an airplane 3d-model usually look distorted when some details are painted on those areas.
The rivets "dots" get stretched and sometimes it does not look so nice on the overall paint-scheme of the airplane skin.

Did you test those areas with a test-skin to see if there are distortions in the upper areas of
the fuselage?

Hi everyone,

this is a known issue when using other image software than Photoshop to open these templates :( . Sadly my templates seem not to behave very nicely with GIMP or other. You will need a Photoshop (CS version is mandatory due to the folder/group structure issues) to take full advantage of all the PS effects. I know this is a sad dilemma as Photoshop is wicked expensive these days :(

Flybob, you are not directly telling what image software you are currently using, but the evidence in your images above strongly indicate it's not PS. So this is why the rivets aren't showing correctly. I can see also that the fabric-textures (ailerons etc.) are not functioning as they should. I can only think of that your current software does not recognize PS layer styles-effects and blending modes which I use heavily with my templates.

What you could try is to buy the PS elements (Cheaper but with less features) to get over this problem and fully enjoy the rich world of skinning. You may have to further update the elements to get it fully compatible with the templates, but it'll still be way cheaper than purchasing the full product.

To stress what eMeL said, see a comparison between Gimp opening the A6M2 psd file and Photoshop doing the same thing (banner hidden, otherwise left the template untouched)

Gimp:

Photoshop:

Despite claiming to be compatible, Gimp epically fails on complex layered Photoshop images.
What is supported in GIMP is PSDs with basic layers, and layer masks, but not layer effects, and not all blending modes, and not smart objects.
Unfortunately there's now way to export a PS image to any "better suitable" format for Gimp either.

*bump*

It might be interesting in this case that Adobe offered the "CS2" version of their software for free.
That's 10 year old stuff, yet good enough for IL-2 by far.
The download page went to dust long time ago, but the links and keys are still working and accessible from the internet archive:
http://web.archive.org/web/20130108114610/http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html
(Even localized versions exist, e.g. use http://web.archive.org/web/20130108114753/http:/www.adobe.com/de/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html to get the german ones).

I thought that was no longer possible! This will be of great help to all skinners and would be skinners. BTW, I started with CS 2 in 2006 ;) A very good and solid PS and I cut my teeth with it. Thx for this valuable information Storebror :) :)

max he's been using Gimp, not Photoshop, that's why.
See his screenshot, compare it to my Gimp Screenshot (they're identical) and then compare it to the same template in Photoshop.
It's an issue with Photoshop's layer effects, blending modes and smart objects not being supported in Gimp.

Those who are skinning for IL-2 or want to become a skinner, grab yourself a CS2 copy and be fine with it :)
