Rhubarbs (update v2.1)
« on: April 09, 2014, 12:03:07 PM »

From the "Glossary of RAF code names":

Rhubarb – operations when sections of fighters or fighter-bombers, taking full advantage of low cloud and poor visibility, would cross the English Channel and then drop below cloud level to search for opportunity targets such as railway locomotives and rolling stock, aircraft on the ground, enemy troops and vehicles on roads.

You will fly early Spitfire Mk.XII for No.91 Squadron of the Royal Air Force.

This campaign is for UP2.01 and 4.09m.

Moving this campaign on Canon's Channel Map, I was eager to give squadrons their historical placement. Soon I realized that almost none of the German ones was inside the map, being for the vast majority based either in Lower Countries or in Germany. :(

The only exception I found was JG 2, all based between Beaumont-Le Roger and Evreux.

On the bright side, the No. 41 and No. 91 Squadrons, flying the Spitfire XII, got Westhampnett, the right base (later becoming famous as Goodwood racing circuit). :)

Have fun!

Hello Greybeard,

a really good source for the location of german Geschwader is this: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/Jagdgeschwader/Inhalt.htm

But maybe you already know.

Cheers

a really good source...

Thanks for the tip! Indeed, seldom I used that source, mainly to check insignia. It has for me the inconvenience to be in German. Usually I find almost all info I need at The Luftwaffe, 1933-45; it lacks only detail of aircraft types before 1942 and after 1944.

In the occasion, I would emphasize how regular check of DGen_mod.log after each and every mission, aimed to detect any anomalous "False" item, helped a lot to debug this campaign. I know you build dynamic campaigns too by Asura's DGen, so I think sharing could be useful.

Regards,

Update v2.1
Hi Rebels!

Introduced latest (so far) version of Asura's DGen_mod, hoping to get some improvement. Actually, I got a lot of troubles, that laboriously ironed out. First of all, it makes disappear all SSP, then vanishes all AAA; alone, I found the trick to restore both.

Fuel is still an issue, although it looks the generator now gives more easily the needed auxiliary tanks, previously stubbornly refused... to be mandatory applied when useless or detrimental (e.g.: scramble).

On the bright side, I think the rendez-vous with enemy flights are now better timed.

I was unable to exploit new "Rhubarbs" mission for Spitfire Mk.XII, since the generator can't understand that it has a single hard point, so bombing missions should be limited to internal fuel range; as a consequence, it sends the fighter to bomb... with auxiliary tank! :( You should get some "Circus" mission, though.

I activated also the Ju 88A-4/Torp with III./KG26: it was based in France at that time, and presumably performed some raid against British fleet also in The Channel. A bit speculative, but fun when you're lucky enough to get the generator picking one mission for it. :P

Same link of first post.

Have fun!
