Changing default skins.
« on: April 10, 2014, 11:23:28 AM »

I wanted to change a few of the default skins on a few planes.
When I went to the paint schemes\cache this is what the TGA look like.
I know this is not right.
I hope some one may have an idea about this problem.
Thank you.

Unlike skins "standard" (Paintschemes\skins\ ..) the location of default skins is the name of "Plane" folder of the aircraft that is given by the Java code.

example:
If your plane is the path: 3do\Plane\Bf-109G-6Late
You will need the skins (tga + tgb) in one of the following subfolders:
- 3do\Plane\Bf-109G-6Late\summer
- 3do\Plane\Bf-109G-6Late\desert
- 3do\Plane\Bf-109G-6Late\winter
...
...

Yes I know that  and by adding this line in the conf.ini
you will get the TGA in the paint scheme\cache

ClearCache= 0
The picture I posted is what I'm getting= not right
I just checked another install and It seems I'm missing the   " skins1o " text file.
Its not being written.

That skin image you posted looks like the "damaged" airplane skin.

The normal skins go into Paintschemes > Skins folder, as we all know,
but the DEFAULT skins for
any airplane is often placed inside a folder named Summer inside where all the
files for that aircraft are stored. Sometimes its another folder with a WINTER or DESERT name on it.

Inside that summer folder you will see 4 skin files...
skin1o.
skin1o.tgb
skin1p.
skin1q.

ALL of these skins are SAVED as TGA files, but one of them is named "tgb". as I have written.
When you save your files into that folder in this manner I showed you, that airplane will
always have that type pf default skin in your game.
Do not forget the sizes of each file, or it might not work properly...
skin1o.     (size 512x512)
skin1o.tgb (size 1024x1024)
skin1p.     (size 128x128)
skin1q.      (size 64x64) some people save them at (size 32x32) but that is to small.

If you want to paint better damaged skins for this particular airplane, then look
into the folder of the original mod airplane and start to open the files with a TARGA (tga) type.
Those TARGA files are usually the skins for the airplane. Look at them, paint them and do not
forget to also paint the ALPHA Layers for transparency and save them in the same exact size.

Then there is also a cockpit folder where all the cockpit part-skins go into , but sometimes, some of
them are also inside the main folder where the airplane-mod is stored at.

So, Open all the TARGA files you can see and look at them. That is the ONLY way, you can figure
out how the airplane is made of according to the skin it uses.

The default skins include an alpha channel, use for visual damage. So they do look like that, viewed out of the game.

Skin1o is 512 x 512 1025ko while a normal skin is 1024 x 1024 is also 1026Ko.
This extra weight is due to presence of the alpha layer. Some plane's defaults still have this layer, but it is clear/empty, hence not seen.

OK made default from cache:
damage is not seen in game like it is shown above; this default skin is in use.
