...with a little bit of patience it definitely can be done.
Yes!
Here it is, a soviet BBK armoured boat navigating superbly.
Now that I've mastered the trick I declare Slovakian rivers officially opened to navigation...
You are a genius!
Thank You again... ;)

It's a super handy trick this.  ;D

Trains have already been mentioned, but vehicles can be made to ford rivers (a lot of maps prevent vehicle way points been plotted across water ways).

River barges can be modified to make wicked strafing targets...

... and landing craft and ships can be beached.  Heaps of fun to be had!  8)

Can anyone tell, how wide a river must be (in meters in the FMB resp. in Map_c), to make ships can move on it?
I'd like to have the north sea-baltic sea-channel as a real water street, but I do not want to have it too -unrealistic- wide...

Hi, Seppel,
try to read here Post no.9:

Perhaps it could help, too.

Experiments have shown, that a minimum of 500m seems to be needed from coast to coast.
The texture has to be "Water" , "CoastRiver" or "CoastSea", as any other texture will disable ship movements.

The limitation has nothing to do with the width of the river , however on ( mod ) maps which were made
with Rivers and Lakes above sea level , this trick is impossible ( to date ).
You can still plot the movement , but the ships simply don't show in mission.

You can make the ships sail anywhere - to prove it I made a fun Coop where aircraft take off to intercept vehicular columns in the middle of the desert only to find a fleet ( carriers and everything ) sailing across the desert towards
the home base.

Hi Seppel

Just make the river your desired width as this will give the best appearance, mission builders can make ships navigate even very narrow rivers.

Check out sgt. wingspan's video 6:20 mark.

You can make the ships sail anywhere

Not in 4.15 that made impossible to place ships in open sea

@ Kopfdorfer:

Yeah, I know. The ships allways run on height 0.
I just was refering to "normal" IL-2-rivers at heigt 0.

@: Frankiek:
I read about that trick and so I am not going to "change" the channel from Baltic to North Sea in my map.
But I was building at the section around RĂ¼gen and coming across with some sea straits I did some "research", finding the 500m-fact.
I want to make it easy (for mission makers) to let ships come in from the high sea in that case...

by the way:
While making maps I find this method, to bring rivers to heigt 0 without getting deep cannyons.
It's just a makeshift method but it works.
See here on page 45 and 46..
