EDITED: sorry, I understood that you were sepaking about the MiGs, I don't fly the Phantom frequently but I haven't noticed it. But speaking about the MiGs is quite weird in this thread!!!

Yes, it happens frquently. It was a problema with most of the MiGs since the 19. Are you using HSFX7? I have solved it but I have a very heavy MODded and heterogeneous installation. I don't know exactly what made the deal, but I think that replacing the HSFX7 FMs by those ones of SAS it was addressed.

Regards,
                     Pablo

Does anyone has noticed this glitch? When flying at low speed and altitude with gear and flaps extended, the plane can randomly roll left or right as if I'd pushed the stick.

Yep, I noticed it on the F-4's as well. With migs it happens only at MiG-19 for me - and way more roughly than at F-4 :o

I don't use HSFX7, I'm on SAS ModAct 5.30 + Jet Era 1.33 + Engine Mod 2.70.

I get a 100% CTD now memory error with any aircraft, and this is what the log says:

*Edit: I do have Engine mod 2.7, western patch, countermeasures mod, Jetwar 1.33, and all of the other goodies.

*Edit 2: I figured out the the Western Patch is conflicting with something I don't know what.

I understand (though I haven't yet tried it), that the MiG-21 3rd-gen has operational radar. Don't get me wrong, the work put into this mod is substantial and appreciated -- I've been BVR'ing Tu-Bulls for practice. But in a real F-4, you would have a ladder HUD, and the Hud would show you the location of the locked-on target, and your radar would tell you how many targets there were (in IL2, you can use the map for this). I tend to think that the basic IL2 engine, right now, can't really deal with radar missiles. Put I love those AIM-9 armed F-86's!

Chris P.
Nothing said here is meant to denigrate or disparage the work done by the modders!

There was no HUD in Vietnam era Phantoms, only the gunsight (later USAF versions only) with rings showing optimal launch angle for Sidewinders. The scope in pilot's cockpit shows exactly the same data as RIO's scope, except pilot has close to no control over its operation. The whole searching and target aquisition for radar guided missiles as well as operating weapon systems as whole is performed by RIO, pilot only pulls the trigger. If no RIO seat is modeled, the radar should probably adjust automaticaly to the situation and target aquisition should be automated, as it is, maybe with prioritising padlocked target and some command system to order RIO to e.g. stop tracking, turn of the radar, etc.

Yeah (he shamefully admits), I went out and did some research *after* I posted that bit about Phantom II Huds. Sequence problem. But my point was really questioning how far IL2 can go in technology. Somebody out there is doing an F-16, I hear. I'm looking forward to seeing how some of the items will be handled.

But I will say that having a female voice tell me "I'm cleared to fire" is not the same as hearing some GIB shouting (incoherently) "I got 'em. Shoot! Shoot!" ;-)

Hi there -

I'm very excited to finally get what is possibly my favourite aircraft of all time (nostalgia from childhood) working in Il2!

i have everything working on a clean install of 4.12.2, all jet planes load except for the Phantom when I get this warning after 100% of the loading process is done (before I'm "in the game") :

"IL-2 6Dof/TIR Enabeled Executable for modded IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 has stopped working"

I don't use TIR or have the 6Dof mod installed - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
K.

Hi Kartman

perhaps this is the case with you? the patch is here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=39075.0

Malone -

Thanks man! I had downloaded the patch along with everything else, but it appears it was the one thing I did not install. Really appreciate the expertise.

Western -

Thank you for this stunning F4 Phantom II. From each and every angle the model is perfect. Perfect. Over 30 years ago I must have made a dozen Airfix models of this bird, in different scales and models, and this plane brings it all back.  The details are all there. I look forward to flying her over the coming days, and then finding some missions, campaigns and scenarios.

On that note; is there a carrier I can land on? is there a particular destination for missions?

Thank again,
K.

well, you can land on any carrier, basically.
not sure if they all support catapults, but those who do, you can also use for launches.
particular destination? - i guess it all depends on how the individual mission is set up...

Thanks Malone! I just found out there are modeled carriers such as the Hancock and Oriskany I can install (wow) :)

By "destination", I meant - website or forum, dedicated to missions or downloads for this bird.

Also, in the absence of a Guide (at least I haven't been able to find one so far), can you tell me how I raise the "flaps" that are under the wings? I'm not sure what they are called, but they are just aft of the left and right undercarriage.

Thanks,
K.
