You have settings at 'Excellent' instead of 'Perfect' I guess? According the appearance of water and landnoise.tga.
That might give a different look in game when playing with RGB values.

MapBuilder set to "Excellent",while wherever the airplane is visible, Il-2 4.101SASModact3.06 is set to "Perfect".

Perhaps my experiments of the past are of any use,
Me too used to play with pixels and grey values on map_c to see what the result were.
I dug up some old screenies and with varying pixels and their grey values you can simulate ditches, meadows with pools of water, paddy fields and even waterfalls.

Super, especially these narrow long canals on first picture. How have You made them? I tried to make narrow ditches around the artificial island in Pinsk (part of a base of Polish Riverine Flotille in 1930s') on Uzin's Belarus map, but it was impossible to get narrow ditch with constant width (corners are the big problem), as You can see on pictures.

Your ditches at Pinsk are amazing !
Can you give a procedure how you achieved them, please ?

Thanks Uzin, but I'm afraid my ditches are too wide and irregular (something like on the first picture in this Uufflakke post https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=40861.msg458238#msg458238 should be ideal).
There was no special procedure to make my ditches, only method of trials and errors (manual pixel inserting on map_c) to get compromise between smallest possible width and continuous shape.
Uufflakke has made it much better, as we can see on his pictures.
There is one more thing on these Uufflakke's pictures, which we can use on Your Belarus map - beautiful swamps (only appropriate texture is needed) water on pics 2 and 3...

I would like to create ditches at Deblin at least so nice as you made in Pinsk, see WIP Deblin with airfield in the distance:

(No ditches yet).

And what about ditches ?
I tried to draw with pencil 1 pixel wide the ditches on Desert Online map, directly into Mymap_c.tga, with RGB= 0,  30, 60, 90,and 120 :

I see you are on the right track, I already posted THIS on your WIP Poland map replies: :D

A bit off topic, but then again not:
I found some more info (basic stuff which TBH I also forgot) on water altitudes as RBG values on the MyMap_C.tga part towards the end of KevinP's great tutorial.
Bottom line, anything above RGB 0 allows for non deep water and on higher values playing with textures coming up under the water.

I made excessive use of that on my first modding experience with agracier's Djibouti lake Assal, and Uufflakke is quite a master with that as well, along with Avala, SAS~Bombsaway and-of course-redko.

Their maps give very good examples of map_c edits. So-if you make narrow ditches you can also make them display the colour of the underlying texture and thus appear shallow.

Let me know if you want more info, but I have some basics of manipulating water areas' depth in a combined 'confused' word doc. A.o. info by Avala he sent me answering a pm back then. ;)
