NEWS UPDATE

Tested in my 409 installation and all seem working flawless!

Also the deletion of all previous maps sfs files seem give no issue!


ORIGINAL FIRST POST

Hi mates!

Finally I got some times to realize a project that I was wondering from a lot of time!

Simply get rid of all sfs maps actually present and realize a new series of them that add all maps , textures and static objects in few sfs files and that 'll be all common and compatible for all game version!

I plan to add all available textures (updated at the last released) so every one can have all textures realized at today , all static objects so none 'll got missions loading issues , and all maps updated at their last release or best reskin!

I have about finished to add all maps (I know) and just start to organize them in .ini files (you should be able to choose from have all maps alphabetical order , geographical order or single theater customization.

I'll realize a base where all maps keep their original folder and load.ini name to allow a complete compatibility with all missions developed from them and a customized maps_ru so evey map should be better identified and recognized among all their area neightbours!

I hope to finish and release a beta at the end of june so I'll let some weeks to debug and release the final version at the begin of september.

In this way we can have a common maps base , everyone who like to change texture can still act at his will , all new maps and retexture can be still added in the old way and , after I'll release an update you can simply add it in sfs files....

Hope you like my intention!

What I ask at all map maker that have developed full maps or retexture of them to PM me if they don't like to allow me add their work at my consolidation work and help me adding all correct credits if I miss someone when I'll finally release it!

That sounds great!  Are you planning to update also the stock maps or only adding new maps?

For the stock maps you can check out the previous work from vpmedia that unfortunately hasn't been updated in a while:

I highly support the development of a maintained map base! It could also be released as separated battle theaters, easier to download,  maintain and update?

All stock maps 'll be updated at the last and better retexturization works , but since for a lot of maps there are more than one retexture I'll add in the sfs files the last one (or what I feel better if there are more similar retexture , not better in the mean of more beautiful but better if compared with other maps that reproduce neightours areas  because if you fly in a map with for example dark green textures and you have a map of a near area with more than one retexture spacing from an overall look light green to dark green or arid I'll choose the dark green) so you can develope a campaign spacing on both maps and feel the terrain similar!

I plan to develope separate sfs files for texture , objects and maps but not to develop separate theatre map , instead to overcome this I'll release multiple all.ini files so you can (even by JSGME) have all maps in alphabetical or theatre order plus a series for have maps even in single theatre or paricular era configuration.

PACIFIC (with CHINA)
KOREA and EAST AFRICA
VIETNAM

Great to see you doing this! (I was involved in an earlier attempt this spring, but my work stalled due to having less and less time over for IL-2.) It will be GREAT - the multiplicity of maps are astounding, and will be one of the salient points of the next genration of DBW  :)

I need to add the last couple of maps , test some reskin , then I'll start a tread to test if I miss something in all.ini....

....if all is complete start to pack the sfs and release an alpha version only for testers....after a couple of weeks a public beta....

This is going to be a lot of work for you and we all applaud what you're doing.

One small, tiny request if possible: Could you add the old, unretextured maps somehow? Just recently I updated the Grand Canyon map with the new retextured one and one of the bases had been completely revamped. All my ground details were useless. Another map that this happened to was the Ardennes map.

If you need other test volunteers I'm also available.

The goal of my project is to have a new series of sfs files with the last maps update , and the Ardennes map 'll be the Cyber RRR , while the Grand Canyon atm is still in the 'to look at' list....

....so this seem a bad news for you....

BUT

....I must also provide an empty map folder for the MAPMODS to allow further update and customization!

If some map don't give you (and any user that have the same need) is always possible add the old files by simply add only the old load.ini....or other older files if the map got further modification than the simple retexturization....

Having begun to experiment with maps, that's exactly what I've been wondering about.
Having just one folder for the same type of files would be a tremendous advantage. It would make life so much easier (for map makers, that is).
I am looking very much forward for your work. I am pretty sure it can't be easy.

Just a little update:

This week work stopped due RL life issue (my sons finish school and this week my model club organize our annual exhibition)....

Plan for next week:

Finish the last maps retexturing choose , extract all olders maps files to get all game loaded texture (there will be some texture duplicate because from 409 to 410 some load,ini were changed so I must to keep both texture position to make all version compatible....but the advantage is that if now we have multiple sfs files that have duplicate of th same texture after we have only one sfs files with only some doubled texture) , update with last released textures , check the mission.ini compatibility (not all mission can be done compatible but make them working correctly is more simple than edit accordling the opposite) , edit the maps_ru to make all map identificable , edit the multiple all.ini (atm I have those all.ini: GENERIC in alphabetical order with all maps , ETO , MTO , RUSSIA , PACIFIC , PRE WWII , POST WWII , MISCELLANEOUS & ON-LINE , BACKUP.)
