Fly, i suspect that somewhere along the way, the Modact itself is responsible for this canopy problem.
i say this, because if i take a stock 4.12 game, the sounds are correct. once i add Modact 5.3, then i experience the silent open canopy problem...

Can someone just send me their copy of Diff_FM? It didn't come with my modact and every time I try to re-download it Google Chrome says it's Malware.

Maty, the Diff_FM is included with Modact 5.3, it's built into it, it's mot a separate mod that comes with it. so, you won't find a Diff_Fm folder, but the classfiles are included.
as for the malware thing, just ignore it - Chrome kicks out many such false malware alarms, and i can assure you there is nothing malicious in the Modact...

@ Fly, i think we might not be quite on the same page here, mate - i've said that i do hear a little wind noise when i open a canopy, but it's really quiet, and my main issue is that the engine sounds, which should also be louder, are suddenly almost whisper-quiet when i open the canopy.
no sounds are absent - it's just a weird, spooky near-silence when opening the canopy, when one would expect a heavy increase in wind and engine sound, it's just the reverse..
so, it's not as if there are no sounds, they are just extremely quiet when opening the canopy, when it should be louder, not quieter.
as for mods, i can post up a pic, but i'll just say there are many mods in this install, but they are all 3d mods, aircraft or objects, nothing to do with any sounds (other than the planes that have some of their own sounds)
i do have one mod installed that is a sound mod, this being stuka 40's environmental sound mod - this, however, also has noting to do with it, because i have the problem with or without this mod.

i think the best way for me to demonstrate what i'm experiencing is to record some video with my phone and upload it, other than that i don't know how better to describe this than i already have....

Malone, trust me. It's not in my copy at all. I can't fly any plane that requires it without the engine mod.

are you sure it's the latest Modact5.3, Maty?
because i have 4 such installs, all using planes that require Diff_FM, and not one of them needed any extra Diff_FM mod.... ?

It's Modact 5.30. Only planes I can use without engine mod are Early B-25s, B-25s D and J for 4.12, Lancaster Mk III and B-24D.

okay, hold on, i think i see the confusion here - i am mistakenly telling you it's included with Modact 5.3, when it is in fact included with the Engine Mod..... that explains that.
sorry for the wrong info in that regard, mate.
why do you not use the engine mod, mate? - you are going to start missing out horribly down the line as more and more mods will be dependent on its features.
anyway, that's your call, i don't want to dictate to you what you should use or not - let's rather figure out the issue with Diff_FM first.
have you at least tried using the Diff_FM versions available in Modworx section?
if they don't work, the only other thing that i can suggest is to just use the two Diff_FM classfiles from the Engine Mod, and leave the rest out - far from ideal, in my book, but i don't see any other option if you don't want the Engine Mod...
i must repeat, not using the Engine Mod is going to cause you to miss out out on a ton of new and future features, so you really should consider using it....

ok thanks Fly, i'm going to go through the settings again and compare them to yours.
i already see one or two differences in the settings, so i'll report back once i've tested then all, probably only tomorrow though, i'm about to watch some telly before i turn in for the night ;)

Malone, it's not because I don't want to, it's that I can't. My PC can't handle the smoke effect, it lowers the FPS down a LOT and that just sucks. I can't get a new PC right now, so i'm stuck with that. I have tried every Diff_FM version and even deleting every Engine Mod file but the Diff_FM, but it didn't work.

Maty, then i suggest the best option might be to remove any fx and other stuff from the Engine Mod,
leaving only the classfiles for the Diff_FM. there should be only 2, afaik - compare with another Diff_FM, and you'll easily see which classfile/s these are. ;)

I already tried that. Game doesn't start. The engine mod manual says all files use the same core, so that might be why.
