Is it possible to make a 3D model into an IL-2 model?
« on: June 12, 2014, 10:06:21 AM »

Just wondering, 'cause I found this beauty for 44 bucks at turbosquid:

It's amazing , but only the gear have many poligons for the Il2 game engine

this does not conform to posting guides of requests section, so i'm moving it to the lounge.
it's not the place for asking questions, or 'just wondering' type ideas.
it's answered already, though - beautiful as it is, it's just way too many poly's for IL-2... :(

So if there's a 3D model (with less polygons), it CAN be put into IL-2?

but certainly with the right procedure, you must know that in a nice 3D model (that is a good reproduction of the plane real) and a working model in the game to go down to a lot of compromises in detail.

yes. that's the one we already have in IL-2, lol  :D

however, you seem to be forgetting the same thing that most people do.
what you see there, is a single 3d model.
for any one plane to go into IL-2, it needs several versions of the model, damage model, etc.
so, you can't just take any 3d model you find and expect it to work in IL-2. there's a helluva lot more to it than  that.

Many of these models have been tried to get imported and abandoned because of the workload in some cases is bigger than building it from scratch

Hello.

My point is the same of GIO's.
I havn't bought turbosquid models yet , and counted its polygons.
But I feel those models may be using 10x ~ 100x much polygons than IL-2 1946 engine can handle.
Decleasing polygon into 1/10 or 1/100 .... that's nearly scratch and maybe far from original details.

In example , my USSR ZPU-4/ZPU-2 AAA model are made from scratch by myself , but in looking at screenshots of turbosquid site.

You can find details decreased in many points easily.
Instead ZPU-4 uses polygons nearly upper limit of IL-2 engine (I'm sure).

But lets say i made a 3d model which has less than 3000 polys(as i know thats the top il2 can handle).
Could i exchange it with another aircrafts 3d model? Of course without the textures it will be pink i guess but just to see how will it look in game. Even at this stage i will have to make a crasmodel of the aircrafts parts or i can leave it to later?

Yes, off course.

PA_Jeronimo's 2 projects.... "New Mod Wheels" and "Fix engines cowlings and prop´s" are just the exchangings of defaults.

Thank you but i meant a full new 3d model from scratch :D
For example there is the mig-9. And i have a 3d model of an aircraft that more or less could use the same FM it also has 2 jet engines it has retractable landing gear and working flaps just as the mig-9 only its a completely different aircraft. So the new 3d model wouldn't have a single common poly with the old(original) aircraft :D
I could do the modelling thing more or less but the importing.. :D But i guess thats the easier part.. i hope... :D :D

as long as it was split up into its correct parts, but moving surfaces may not move correctly as they using java from the old model to move it
