See also the other parts. But watch your ears, very annoying sound at the end of part 1 and to the start of pt. 2 ;)  :)

Watching the process of unbuckling that seat harness makes you wonder how difficult it must have been to get out of a shot up and burning p-51.

With the P-51, I was waiting to see if he would bring out the "comfort tube" and show it to the camera!!!

See page 69 of Andrew D. Bird's "A Separate Little War" which features some narratives of P-51B's over Norway and Scotland.

Watching the process of unbuckling that seat harness makes you wonder how difficult it must have been to get out of a shot up and burning p-51.

luckily for every pilot who ever found himself having that much of a bad day - That's not the seat harness that takers him all those steps to undo - that's his parachute, which he leaves in the cockpit as he exits (that's a bucket seat, thus chute = cushion)

the seat harness itself he took out in the first half second after arriving - one flick of the latch and all four points come undone - I've flown R-W gliders with such belt arrangements, they are as fast to take off as they're tricky to put together (gotta plug all the bits on the open latch, then close it, somehow keeping them from falling off before you do - and there's an order to it that is not optional to obey...)

i've watched that video before and boy oh boy, it never gets old! -- when I get rich i'll definitely have to get myself a '51 - that's the ultimate joyride!

and lol, when he says "pretty cool, huh?" to the amazed crowd -- that's quite an understatement!
