Introducing, for the first time ever, the HE-177 Super Spinner Spiral 9000™!
Anyways, this is a He-177 A-5 from the 2. Staffel KG40, code F8+AN, W.Nr 550077, with the crew of Hptm. Stolle. The single kill mark on the tail is form a successful encountered with a P-61 Black Widow ("Impatient Widow"), in August 1944, after which the tail gunner, Uffz. Fabinger, was awarded the knights cross:
"..it was shortly before half past midnight. I had just carried out my instrument checks and was about to make my report to Hptm. Stolle when our tail gunner Uffz. Fabinger shouted over the EiV (Eigenverständigung - crew intercom), “ Achtung! Lightning at 6 o’clock. Maintain heading, I’m opening fire. ” At the same time we felt the fuselage shudder as Fabinger’s 2 cm cannon opened up. Fabinger was soon reporting: “I’ve hit him, he’s alight, his starboard engine is on fire, he’s going down. Abschuß!.." The two other He 177s witnessed the downing (Abschußbestätigung) and confirmed it north of Bafleur (sic), France..(Barfleur, Normandy)."

I decided however to make this as it is commonly depicted, with light dots applied over the original RLM 65, perhaps RLM 77. After all, in the photos, the base colour seems very light, some variety is also good ...
