HE-177A-5 F8+AN of I./KG40
« on: July 19, 2014, 06:16:06 PM »

Introducing, for the first time ever, the HE-177 Super Spinner Spiral 9000™!

Anyways, this is a He-177 A-5 from the 2. Staffel KG40, code F8+AN, W.Nr 550077, with the crew of Hptm. Stolle. The single kill mark on the tail is form a successful encountered with a P-61 Black Widow ("Impatient Widow"), in August 1944, after which the tail gunner, Uffz. Fabinger, was awarded the knights cross:

"..it was shortly before half past midnight. I had just carried out my instrument checks and was about to make my report to Hptm. Stolle when our tail gunner Uffz. Fabinger shouted over the EiV (Eigenverständigung - crew intercom), “ Achtung! Lightning at 6 o’clock. Maintain heading, I’m opening fire. ” At the same time we felt the fuselage shudder as Fabinger’s 2 cm cannon opened up. Fabinger was soon reporting: “I’ve hit him, he’s alight, his starboard engine is on fire, he’s going down. Abschuß!.." The two other He 177s witnessed the downing (Abschußbestätigung) and confirmed it north of Bafleur (sic), France..(Barfleur, Normandy)."

I was not sure about the colours, it may be that it had a scheme like the Greifs of 6./KG40, where the undersides were painted a darker colour, with light blue applied in dots over. I decided however to make this as it is commonly depicted, with light dots applied over the original RLM 65, perhaps RLM 77. After all, in the photos, the base colour seems very light, some variety is also good ...

A blank is included

(This might be a WIP, since I'm rather new to this whole skinning business)

Unrealistic cause a desert-sand version would have been too complicated.  ;)

unrealistic, perhaps, but i've made many desert skin conversions for planes which never operated there - soviet and others.
shouldn't be too hard to do a desert conversion. give me a day or two ;)

here's an example of using some of my devious photoshop tactics on the default skin, this took me all of 3 minutes to do, just as a test. :D

Introducing, for the first time ever (to my knowledge), the HE-177 Super Spinner Spiral 9000!

AHA  ;D You beat me to it. Good job!
Mighty nice prop swirling effects Panzaerfaust-man. Overall its a cool looking skin.

What exactly is that on the side of the airplanes fuselage. Looking at the photo, it looks like they
made an extra door or something.
In that area of the bomber fuselage side , just below the horizontal line you see in the photo, there are 5 to 6 lids
that open up to show various nose-plug fixtures. Stuff to hook up the oxygen bottles, energy plugs,
and other things.
