Lockheed F-4 Lightning
« on: July 27, 2014, 05:00:58 AM »

Hi guys!

I think it played a significant role in PTO (short history of the variant).
I'm particularly interested in those who flew with 9th PRS.

If I may give a suggestion, the base could be existing P-38E (part of DBW), provided with drop tanks attachments and unarmed by default.

Salutations,
GB

P.S.: some more picture

Sorry, I was unable to find a three-view drawing specific of the F-4. :(

This mod would make sense IMHO, but I do not wanna make a request. (Insert angel here  :-[ ).

The version greybeard means is unarmed, and while some of the existing skins for the (to me only known as F-5 version) are nice, the cannons simply look shitty on those.

Edit...the F-4s where earlier Lightnings.

Thanks Tom. Indeed, there's at least one skin existing also for F-4:

providing windows for side cameras. Unfortunately, protruding guns barrels waste visual effect, not to mention lack of vertical cameras (which would require some touch-up of 3D model). In addition, this fake requires some trick in campaign settings to avoid it fighting back when bounced by enemy fighters. All in all, quite poorly depicted. :(

Actually, it was the first of all P-38 variants to reach active duty.

Lucky for you I've been ban from World of Tanks for 3 days for Team killing one of them (Hunt us Down)
and I have 3 days will nothing to do.
I'm going to see if I can dig out the F-4 I was working on from my back up hard drive out.
P.S. Have not played IL-2 in 3 years it may take a bit.

Take all time you need. Just hoping three days will be enough for you...

Sorry greybeard I have been having trouble with getting IL-2 to run on my Windows 8.
So I'm going to send you a PM. with a up-load of a mod with the msh files I put in it. I don't remember who made the 4 prop P-38N
but that is the mod I was using to test the F-4 and F-5. so long ago don't know what they look like anymore.
they are very basic msh files no hooks or shadows.
so I may give up if I can't get. IL-2 to run or 3dmax running too.
please post some pic's it may motivate me to keep trying

Cranky, my brother was having trouble running IL-2 on Win8 at first also, but we got it working. What exactly is happening when you start the game?

P.S.: 3 YEARS?? Wow... then you probably haven't experienced the glory of 4.12.2 stability or the new AI....  :'(
...you just gotta get your game to work...  ;D
