I chanced on watching one of the videos and discovered this great website.

I have IL-2 1946 original disc, 408m and 490m official patches as well as Ultra Pack 201.  Have been away from this game for 2 years now.

Now, given the above, where do I start to get SAS aircrafts?  I really love the MiG-21!!

I would suggest that you start by patching your game up to v4.12.2 (unmodded) using the official patches. Ensure it works ok before proceeding.

Then install SASModAct5.3: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,37662.0.html to enable mods.   --- Must install on clean v4.12.2
Post again when you have SASModAct installed and working.

Before installing the Mig21 you need the Jet Era Pack https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,15649.0.html
Follow the v4.12.2 specific instructions.

Thanks hubberranz for the supplementary information.   I'll put them altogether and get all the needed installed.

Can't wait to take off.  Want to test out low level high speed flying.  Can the jet reach Mach 1 at sea level by the way?

I have completed the install of SAS Modact 5.3. The whole game is relocated in C:\IL-2 because when first launched, a warning message says access rights something requires me to relocate to a folder directly under C drive.

I have a problem, I wanted to shoot up the resolution to 1680X1050X32, after I click Apply, the game bailed out with out error message.  I am using Windows 7, is that the reason?  Please help me.

I am also using Win7.    I needed to set the IL-2 executable files as exclusions in my Anti-Virus and Firewall programmes. (Avast and Comodo).
Set the executables to Run as Administrator.

You are correct to relocate the game folder. Sorry, I forgot to mention it.
Do you get the IL2-Selector window appearing ok, before you press the Start IL-2 Now button?
Did you try to change the monitor resolution using the "in game" setup?

Quit the game and open conf.ini in a text editor.

The section in my game which controls the monitor resolution (1920x1080x32) is as follows:

Check that yours is similar (width height lines changed to suit your monitor).  I presume your monitor supports 1680x1050x32?

I did what you told me to. The splash screen appeared and then it went away and threw me back to Window!

BTW, should I download the 4.12.2 Mega patch instead of each individual patch from 4.0.8 to 4.12.2?

I reinstalled from 4.08,4.09,4.09(skin),4.10,4.10.1,4.11,4.11.1,4.12,4.12.1,4.12.2.  I also modified the conf.ini as instructed.  I put 1680x1050x32.  Now it doesn't throw me back to Window.  But weird, it gives me a 4:3 screen!?

Anyway, I can go into fly a plane.

Now, forget about the resolution.  How do I get the Jet Era going?  I tried it once but the splash screen just appeared and then gone and threw me back to Windows.

Can you give me precise steps how to install Jet Era?  I really want to fly a modern jet in IL-2 environment!
