In this our wonderful sim, some of my greatest enjoyment come from spending inordinate amounts of time decoration my missions with ridiculous details that no one will ever see....
So now, I have decided to begin sharing the fruits of my labor with you all just for fun from time to time.
First up is a short Patrol on the Kyushu Map. A small IJA base, primarily equipped with Ki-43 II is in the process of repainting its aged fighters, bringing their flaking paint schemes up to current standards. I make use of toomoose's excellent objects, as well as several of the vehicles available in packs by Epervier, and two MOD hangers.
Crewmen prepare to do a minor repair to this fighter. Thanks again to toomoose (who's mod I turned inside and out several times) for showing me, inadvertently, how to raise and lower static objects like this crewman in the .ini file.
The headquarters building and coms center. Here I have a truck and arty by Epervier.
A garrison of troops stationed here prepare to go on maneuvers.
While a smaller group of soldiers board a transport. As a pilot only, I am not privileged to information concerning their destination.
A lonely AA emplacement.
A smaller gun guards a tiny lookout post East of the runway.
Two small boats fishing in the nearby river.
Now after all that work I could finally enjoy it.
I soon took my newly painted craft into the bright sky to patrol the southern shoreline of the islands.
After some time, I noticed two aircraft below me and out over the sea, so I went to investigate. It was a pair of US Navy FM-2 Wildcats. I decided to attack, given my advantageous position. As I approached, they spotted me and turned to meet me.
I easily avoided their headlong attack, and climbed swiftly above the heavy American fighters.
Both were skillful opponents, handling their craft expertly and never letting me out of their sight. It was impossible to approach one without the other one getting position on me. The number 2 pilot actually hit me on one approach.
It took several attempts, but I eventually coaxed the second fighter into a turning fight.
Once he was out of the speed, I was able to gain favorable position on his now defenseless leader.
My guns ran empty, and so i pulled along side to look him over. For a moment he flew level and straight, then he slowly began a long roll to the left, into the water below.
Now without ammunition and low on fuel, I turned for home. but scarcely made landfall when my engine failed. I made a rough landing on a beach far south of my home airfield.
