I thought of another method: When Spookie started fixing the B-25 windows for me, he said to make a Stock defaults folder with the same structure as plane folders and put the files there. I could take the B-24D default (Which is the same), edit it and place it there.
Yes, that is a good advice. I would use it, instead of extracting all of the SFS files, if you do not really want to do that.
Let me give you (
or for those persons that do not know about it) some tips on how to do this.
Inside an airplane-mod folder you will often see this sequence of folders...
(This is an example )
IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\#DBW\AIRCRAFT_Go-229A-NJ\3do\Plane\Go-229A2NJ\summer
You will see the airplane-mod folder inside you mod game version - I have named my folder
AIRCRAFT_Go-229A-NJ...
and then you will see a
3do folder ... and then a
Plane folder... and then the name of the airplane
Go-229A2NJ folder...
... and then a
summer folder
Now inside this "summer" folder is where you will find the 4 default skins for any airplane in your game.
These 4 skins are named in the following manner - The skins are all .tga type files (also known as TARGA files)...
skin1o.tgb
skin1o
skin1p
skin1q
Each skin has to be in a the following sizes...
skin1o.tgb = 1024x1024
skin1o = 512x512
skin1p = 128x128
skin1q = 32x32
Once you place these files into your modded game you should then have a new default skin for your aircraft.
These ".tga" (or TARGA file format) files can be saved using "Alpha-Channels" layers to make parts of
the airplane look transparent in some areas. An example of this would be to make holes for the windows.
Keep in mind that when you save normal skins for the game and to be placed in your "paintschemes" folder,
they are to be saved as a "bmp" file format.
These BMP format skins do not contain any "alpha-channel" layers in them. They are just normal skins with no transparent parts.
In some airplane models you will also see a set of skins with transparency in TGA format. Look into those files inside the airplane main folder,
because some skins are like the same files as the ones in the "summer" folder for default skins.
These skins must be saved EXACTLY to look like the default skins and in the same size also.
