The AI of 4.12.2m really shines.

I ran the mission 2 times. In the 1st round, the Fresco killed the Sabre, not with the R55 missile, but cannon.

In the 2nd round, which is recorded in this video, the Sabre launched its AIM9B missiles but all missed.  The Fresco shortly before the kill, tried jinking to break from the Sabre, as you can see the Sabre turned as the Fresco turned, this is like in real fight.

By the way, the Sabre was set to Veteran where the Fresco was set to Ace.  The turn radius of the MiG-17 is larger possibly the reason.

In Rl a more appropriate match would have been an F-86H...latest and most supreme F-86 version, loved by their pilots.

Or, either a Canadair Sabre 6 (racing car Sabre ) or late Avon Sabre (from the RAAF).
Still, a Mig-17 with AB should be a very potent adversary, except the Red boy's Mig-17s did not have boosted controls and thus were far inferior in that regime.

Well, we were fighting on The Server - 17F (K-13-missiled) against the Fury with AIM-9D's. The 9D is really overpowered so only way was close range combat and cannons. The 17 is much faster, so you can runaway everytime you want, but then the missile will catch you. But once you're out of range, you're immortal, invincible

+ the R-55 is not meant to be launched during dogfight, it's more to take down a bomber or nonmanouvering target.

You also run into the problem with that version of the MiG. It was never as maneuverable as the MiG-17AS, and so could be defeated easier. Try the fight again with comparable planes and you will find the results a little different.
