5 NASA atronauts
« on: September 01, 2014, 01:59:12 PM »

These are 5 NASA astronauts,
original pilot mod and permission to modify by elephant! Thanks to you man!

Please check the readme for more info on the pilots and skins.

In alphabetical order of surnames

Alan Shepard, Gordo(n) Cooper, Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, John Glenn, Neil Armstrong
The ones marked in blue have good skin to 3D fitting. The others are fun as well.

They were all test pilots or record holders before becoming astronauts.
Gordon Cooper was also famous for two things:
The man with the longest single astronaut flying time in a capsule.
His openly reported UFO experience and enlightenment engagement on that topic.

Screens

(Neil Armstrong is my favourite, skin also fits IMHO)

Neil Armstrong (flew Panthers in RL):

Alan Shepard (first US citizen in Space)

Gordon Cooper (for him I have a backup 2nd skin not as perfect but whith a nice smile and maybe a few years younger-on demand)

John Glenn /flew to space in 1998 at an age well over 70 again-at age 77..! Another record on his list. Still alive.

Gus Grissom(, a bit slanted faced here)

Died in a tragic fire (ignited  oxygen, later replaced) accident inside the capusle of Apollo 1. A kickass man.
 :)

Cheers

Nice work mr. Tom! John Glenn would fit perfectly with the Mig Mad Marine skin for F-86! http://kb.osu.edu/dspace/bitstream/handle/1811/50344/OCA_GlennArchives_G059-31-1x.jpg;jsessionid=B08E8081409C5B6779C7B5B766264158?sequence=1

Neil Armstrong also for VF-51 Panther skins! He flew in 116...http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/41/F9F-2_Panthers_VF-51_over_Korea_1951.jpg

But that F-86 canopy framing could use some love, looks strange with that perfectly smooth round glass...
And nice mirror also!

Thanks for the kind words fellows!
As for the Mig Mad Marine, if you do not have that skin, pm me, I think I have two versions of it in my F-86 skin library and a shitload of other F-86 skins.

BTW Freddy's pits rule, there was already a mod for a mirror inside the pit but it still needed coding aka extra work. Since I cannot code...and am ca. as lazy as the dude.. ;D

Thanks a lot Max!
Few people know that Gus Grissom actually was the most likely candidate for the first steps on the moon before his accident.
Well, Mr. Armstrong pulled it off like a boss, in a stunt that would have been simply impossible for most pilots AND kickass gamers. :)
I think the onboard computer of the Eagle completely lost it during his final approach, a matter of seconds before the max fuel was out and he landed just on time, vs all odds. ;)

Very true.
Most people don´t know the full story of how those guys landed on the moon.
They were almost going to be the first 3 dead astronauts to crash on the moon. Some quick thinking and
ace-pilot reflexes made the EAGLE-space-module land safely on the moon.

Add here Richard Ira Bong, not really an astronaut, but make no mistake, he would have been a perfect candidate.

He tested the P-80 Shooting Star and died on a tragic takeoff crash on August 6th, 1945.

He was also after all I read the highest scoring USAAF Ace in the Pacific and WWII.

The skin I used was the Greg Boyington skin by the author "Greg Boyington", credit and thanks to him!!
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,39906.0.html

..made two variants after two pictures (I download ca 10-15 pics for each pilot I mess with and take the one which fits best as for angle, after initial errors-which proved funny nevertheless..).

One with a IMO better fitting face and another with bigger face.

my choice:

The other version

No ownership, credit etc infringement intended, again thanks to G. Boyington.

SInce I got zero feedback on this one (a "fate" 60-80% of all skin mods share) I thought I post another 2 shots.  :D  :P
Well, it is only a pilot, and certainly only made based on a much better mod by Greg Boyington, and -frankly, took me 60 minutes max...so all good! ;)
Also while I do enjoy making myself some historic chaps, I do not really do much of the hero praising stuff.

I find it remarkably though how mature all those young WWII pilots looked when just 20-25. THAT I find impressive. Most look much older, not by their age, but their face written experience and probably terror lived through.

ATM I fly the M4Today Richard Bong Ace of Aces campaign, well started.
