A couple of questions.

Firstly.. anyone working on getting me a mesh with normal maps?

Secondly I've started working on the editor and part of the editor will be generating maneuvers for the AI pilots.

So you can create and test Immleman's, lag displacement rolls, etc.

I really want to have this as a moddable part of the game for when I get moderbn jets in. Some of the tail stand maneuvers that the mig pilots are showing just have to be in the game.

Anyone looked in detail at how IL2's AI works?

Do you just need a placeholder for testing shaders and stuff?

If that's the case - if you have any textured mesh already, I would gladly make a quick'n'dirty normal map for it if you'd like. It probably wouldn't be perfect or pretty, but that would be the most expedient solution if the purpose is to test the graphics rendering. It would get the job done, making it possible to see if the normal maps are rendered correctly and all that stuff.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a release-quality material, then it's a completely different matter...

Had a real face palm this morning.

Wanted to start the engines on my B17 for the first time.

I have the engines modelled, fuel tanks, fuel feeds, instrument panels, so it should have been simple.

Tried to start the engines and none of them would start.... looked through the code and couldn't see anything obvious, so I called the instant start engine routine rather than the manual startup.

Still none of them would start.

So I debugged the code line by line, got to the ConsumeFuel routine and it had all the correct fuel feed, the correct tanks were connected to the engines, the tanks had fuel in them........  but none of the tanks were selected.

I haven't done the fuel management panel yet so I haven't got any fuel tank selection switches.    ???

By the time I realised I was in Guildford and had to get off the train. Idiot.

Anyway, my broadband is supposed to be turned on tomorrow so I can post some screenies.

I have a major design change and I'm using SlimDX for the rendering.

We used to write songs and put them on the B side of the cassette tapes when we shipped Spectrum games.

The office was in Southsea, in the old clock tower. We had an office parrot Lurch (well we thought it was a parrot) and a jukebox full of Frank Zappa.

This one is about Pompey.

Well according to BT, my broadband and phone is on.

The fact that I don't have broadband or a functioning phone line is irrelevant. After  half an hour on the phone yelling at a brain dead automatic phone system, four transfers from various parts of India to various other parts of India, a blood pressure of 250psi, and an un-ignorable desire to murder a BT employee and hang his rotting body from my balcony as a warning to others.

I still have no broadband and phone.

Will post some screenies when hell freezes over, or BT fixes my phone line, whichever happens first.

At last I have broadband  8)

Okay some screenies of the progress, everything is experimental at the mI am working on it.

First terrain, my budget for this is 8 mS , so I am well within budget at the moment.

I've started my low end renderer as well, this is the one that should run on every machine and isn't very pretty. This is the aircraft data screen.

And I've started work on the game editor, this shows a work in progress runway being constructed

So a lot going on
