Campaigns that work in 412 on older less powerful rigs and 412TFM
« on: September 07, 2014, 06:00:39 AM »

Hi,

I thought I'd start a thread for us less fortunate players with older PCs and less graphical performance.

I've only just converted from DBW1.7.1. and I'm loving 412 Modact 5.3 with 412TFM however, having a weak machine means that I can't run the new Battle of Britain campaign of Four days in June.
Therefore I have begun a quest to see how many of the older DBW/SAS campaigns I can get running in 412 TFM.

I have got Poltava's 'Battle for France 1940' campaign working so far by renaming the properties files to lose the _ru suffix. That's all I had to do as all the planes and map needed are included in 412TFM.

Please post up any other Campaigns of Singles that you get running.

Thanks

You may want to take a look at dynamic campaigns built for Lowengrin's DCG program. In DCG, you (the player) can apply "density" settings to any campaign that will lower resource requirements for your gaming computer. You will see a number of threads on this board regarding DCG and campaigns written for it.

You can download DCG itself here:  http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php

Thanks.

I'll take a look and check compatibility with 412. The latest version of DCG says it is for 411...

I've got 'Storm over England' working now too with good fps

DCG works with 412. I am building DCG campaigns on TFM-412 now. Be sure and check Mission for Today also. Most campaign builders post there.

Hi Carpet,
maybe my question is slightly off topic, but I'm one of the "less fortunate players with older PCs and less graphical performance" that however would like to run IL-2 with TFM 412.
I got an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @2.33GHz, 3,5 GB RAM and an NVIDIA GE Force 9400GT graphic card; are my specs more or less matching yours? Do you running TFM 412 well? Maybe i need to lower the ingame graphic settings?
I would like to know if it worth to install TFM 412 or not...

Thank you

Hi Citizen,

My machine is worse than yours.
I have a dual core with a slightly higher clock speed (2.66Ghz) but only an integrated graphics card!   :(

Given how ancient and underpowered my machine is, it is not surprising that the new feature rich 412 TFM campaigns (Battle of Battle & Four days) do not play nicely.
However, I would say that older campaigns running under 412 are smoother.

It might be my install of 412TFM (I had a lot of difficulty downloading the Claymore FW pack) and after installing that pack the load time really slows down.
It was a a real dog to install TFM via the JGSME to the point it took around 5 hours to install 3 or four packs. So it took many nights effort. That said, apart from an error with the 3d modelling on the jeep and kubelwagen and missle selection on the jets. Everything else worked fine.

You could do what I've done...

I have an install of 412TFM and another install of 412 Modact 5.3 which I use to make a tailored installation copying parts from the TFM install. This is my 'lite' version and test bed to try out combinations.

412 is a vast improvement over 4.10 and it's worth upgrading in my opinion even though you are losing DBW.
Anyhow, I might be a bit weird as I probably get more fun out of testing and installing stuff than actually playing the game!

Should you install 412 TFM? YES!
Try it out. You may be surprised how well it does work on your machine. You will probably need to experiment lowering your graphical settings and compressing textures to get decent FPS. The other thing I do is make sure clouds are turned off increase frame rates.
In any case, what have you got to lose? Apart from a lot of HDD space!

Thanks Greybeard.
I'll give them a whirl...

I've got a campaign mapped out on scraps of paper for the Fw200 & He177. Just need to pull my finger out and build it!

Hi Carpet,
me too I spend lot of time installing mods, campaigns and skins leaving too less time to fly! I'd like to have "the perfect sim" so I pass hours customizing and testing my IL-2 looking for the best result.
However, I'll do as you said: I'll try, but I'm afraid I'll have to take a few days off to install everything! (5 hours to install 3/4 pack is tragic).

Thank you very much
Bye
