A Pack of historical british Allison Mustangs.
RAF Allison Mustangs
No semi-historicals, all kites you see here are preserved on celluliod in pictures or movie stills.
Skinning the Mk.I was fun, as one can make out differenes in Squadron markings, but when it came to the Mk.IAs it went up
to be hilarious, with the monotone outlooks of the preserved kites. Still up to the minimalistic details and features I gave my best, keeping up the mood to skin.
Mustangs from the UK-designations Mk.I, Mk.Ia and Mk.II where all delivered in the distinguished ANA Temperate Paintscheme, consisting of an US equivalent to Dark Green, Dark earth and Light Grey. We have colour photographs showing initial production, crating stages of these 3 Batches, showing it's distinguished colours and some neat details.
This was upsetting the british as they asked for proper modification of paints to be used, up to RAF standards, North American and it's facilities slightly ignored this and finally introduced the required paints to be used beginning with the Mk.III batches!!! Upon arrival the mainstray of Allison Mustangs where kept as they stood, only a few crates where hauled in workshops and saw repainting at these stages 1942 up to mid 1943.
After the 2nd AC changed unit designations from Squadron style to single letter Radio codes the remaining Mustangs got their new paintcoat, as the US Paint quickly weathered and peeled off, such as the Navy paint applied to Spitfires en route to Malta. Still the performance of the early Mustangs was too weak to bolster it with extra weight in form of applied paints,
later repaintings only saw partial repainting of the dark earth with a variety of availlable greys.
This process was taking it's time and saw it beginning with the introduction of the new standard in early 1943 until being completed before the Allied Landings in the Normandy, when surplus invasion stripes where added partially.
Though a few Mustangs kept a mix of old and new paint as well as national insignia, mainly due to the fact the Allisons stood in secondary duties.
Tactical code changing of 2nd AC makes it nearly impossible to differentiate any photographed Mk.IA and it's Squadron.

as I can't remember what exactly formed to be the base for this messy Template.
