HUD ammo counter
« on: October 01, 2014, 10:04:41 AM »

Hello, would it be possible to add an ammunition counter to the game's HUD next to the indicators of airspeed/altitude/heading (that thing in the bottom left corner of the screen...I don't know how to call it, so i'll simply call it HUD  :D)? I know this is not in any case historical nor it is something the game misses very badly, I just got an idea that it would be good to have some indication of how much ammo do you have left. I would just like to ask if it was possible to make and, if yes, if somebody was willing to do it.
Cheers!

It's possible but requires a couple of base game classes to be modified, so it will not be compatible across many different heavily modded game installations.
Tell us a bit about what you're using, e.g. patch level (e.g. 4.12.2m), mod pack (e.g. HSFX 7, TFM etc.) or large dedicated mods (SAS Engine Mod, Jetwar etc.).

Best regards - Mike

Hmmm sounds like a decent idea, maybe something that could be coded into the realism/difficulty settings.

...that would additionally require the GUI to be modified.
My stance on modding is to touch as few base game classes as possible.

I'm using DBW 1.71 with the latest SAS Engine mod compatible (2.6 i think) plus Jetwar 1.3. I understand that it contains a lot of work to make it and that the suggestion might not be very interesting form modders. To be more specific about the way of having it in game, I thought of some kind of an extension for this mod: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,15931.msg171391.html#msg171391

Several things regarding this:

It is not so difficult to implement that to the Extended HUD of the VisualMOD V9 (only for v4.12). In fact the situation is that you should list all the weapons slots in the loadout of the plane like:

MG17: 120/500
MG105: 220/450
R4M: 8/8
SC250: 1/2

But in some cases they could be many lines. What would you show for Bombardiers?

Regards,

I thought mainly of fighters, and only the ammo for MGs/cannons. I understand that listing all the weapons of a bomber is a lot of work, plus it would be too many lines on the HUD. As of rockets and bombs, you know how many of them you have at the beginning of the mission, so you can easily keep track of your bomb load whenever you drop one. I was thinking mainly about the fighters (although knowing how much ammo your gunnesr have left would be also helpful, but as I said before, a lot more work) and for cannons/MGs only.
