@ shardana

1) preferably don't install your game in C:, use another partition instead ...! create one new partition if there isn't already one (like D:, E: etc ...)

2) if you still have access to your old Hard Drive just copy (still not in C:) your game folder to your new PC and then just make a shortcut of the .exe ...

I installed the game + 2 modded versions on C: partition in Windows 8.1 and works perfectly well.
But... don't install it in C:/Program Files.
Create a folder like 'Games' and drop your IL2 folder in there. So the path is this: C:/Games/IL2-V4.09m

@ shardana

If you know somebody who can read the content of your old Hard Drive (the one from the broken PC) then you only need to copy the content of your game on your new PC and then create a new shortcut ...

Generally you plug the old (and may be readable) Hard Drive as "slave" in another PC, and then try to access its content using explorer (NOT Internet Explorer of course)

There are also free utilities that can sometimes retrieve lost data, such as Recuva:

Hi all, the problem is that my old vaio wasn't a 62 bit windows 8.... it was a 6 year old windows  vista. I wonder if this may be a problem.....anyway I have the old hard drive and i can get access to my data, tomorrow I will create a new partition and I will follow your advise. really I dread the idea of losing such a precious install.... cross fingers!!

... no relationship between a 64 bits OS (or 32 bits) and your game folder ...

If you can access (read) the data contained in your old hard disc, then you only need to copy your game folder to your new PC and create a shortcut from the .exe ...

And in the future, think of making regular (monthly ?) backups ...!  :D

...or maybe put (if not damaged) the HDD in an external HDD-case and try to safe the game per USB.

Good luck,

@ Mick

Also moving Il-2 to a Win 8 from my old XP.
Put everything into D: and after a few hits and misses works fine. No frame rate problems!
But still moving modded plane by modded plane ever so slowly from one machine to the other.

Never tried, but is it possible to connect the machines with a net cable? And sort of use either machine as an external hard drive for the other?

Shardana,

Your conf.ini from the old install may not be compatible with your new system - check screen resolution etc
