Carrier Deck Lights
« on: October 08, 2014, 12:36:51 PM »

Requesting carrier deck lights for aircraft carriers like the Korean war era carriers and the Angled deck Essex class carriers. I know the only way to place lights on ships right now is to use stationary ships and just accurately place the lights. But to make lights available on moving and pitching decks would add realism and would be great for FMB. Maybe the ships lights could be either turned on or off by request by contacting ground control during missions?

Also to add Life, realism, and a more challenging approach, maybe carrier decks can be cluttered with parked navy planes of the 1950s/1960's era. Like so..

These could be four different ships to choose from in the library of ships for FMB.
Last thing, another great mod for ships would be to allow to aircraft to takeoff of both 1 & 2 catapults. This would make for faster carrier takeoffs among flights

And I meant to request blast shields on US carriers. Like the small ones seen behind the F9 panthers on takeoff in the picture

I think, if to do some experiments with java code, the attached to the deck lights can be provided...
I will try to try it ( :D ) when I will have some free time...

there's been such a mod done a long time ago already, possibly by CY6.
only problem it had is that it wasn't compatible with the carrier crew mod.
the blast doors, to my knowledge, are also either being worked on or done already.

here's the thread with the lights mod - https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,7032.0.html

please, remember to make sure you search for something before requesting, so we don't end up with this sort of repeat process.

Hi jetboy19.
Half of your idea for lighting could work by adding Hook on 3D model and some lines on java code without any problem of compatibility.
The image I put is example, I put effect and light source on my Ise.
(Light effect continue emitted during mission. My method can't turn on/off by situation.)

However, we should edit root class files of ship for on/off function, moving object and catapults
 like as SAS Engine MOD.

P.S.
My Ise mod folder include some source file.
please See spaghetti section of Shipkdm.java.
It could help you.

Thx guys, I really hope the carrier lights with crew and blast shields happen.
Hope i'm not requesting too much, but what about the deck planes and other objects, would anyone be willing to scatter some of those beauties on the deck?

Why.
Carrier ops are tough enough, and you can only have the empty or dual purpose layout...
if you clog up the rear, you can take off , but can not land. where do you spawn? where does your 4 man flight spawn? how does AI react?

if you free the landing zone, you can not take off. Hoqw do AI planes handle the angled deck, or do they just go in on the main ship axis?

and on top of that you have the plane rocking about on the deck... can you even move to the catapult without fudging up your wingtips?

This looks cool, but your request needs a LOT more thought than just this...
Unless its all just cosmetic.
Then the entire request is kinda "Meh" and loses a lot of its potential.
Think it through some more.

i was thinking only cosmetic. Something just to add more realism to carrier operations. There's already a mod that adds corsairs along side the decks of the Essex and Intrepid, I would just like to see a mod that adds cold war era navy aircraft on the angled deck carriers. And then who knows, in the future the planes may be able to taxi around the deck. And planes, whether user or AI wouldn't have to move to the catapults. To my understanding, carrier takeoff mods automatically jump the planes to the catapult anyways so that prevents the problem of running into other aircraft on the deck.
I was just asking for a simple carrier deck layout similar to these taken from "wings over Vietnam, yankee station mod"

nono.
You just commited the crime to call this a realism thing.

If it is cosmetic, then it can not be realistic.

the realism of these deck layouts comes from the struggle to put your plane down that strip, to put the hook into the correct square so you do not annihilate the planes that are on deck.
The realism comes from taxiing from ... the elevator, past the other planes to your cat position.

if it is cosmetic, then you don't give a  bleep what other "planes" you run into.

To my underastanding, and yes, with a biit of sarcasm, you are supposed to get your seafire to the catapult yourself - and then hook the thing up yourself.
letting the autopilot do this for you... is not realistic. no autopilot in the world Taxies on a carrier deck.
the autopilot argument is invalid for yourself.
for the AI flight... if they are pulled, they will transit the other planes that stand in the way. if realistic, then BOOM. if only cosmetic then not realistic as you say.

so you either have it cosmetic, the AI working, but completely UNrealistic
or you can think of other solutions.

THINK.

==============================
4 planes per flight.
4 cats. Planes spawn at catapult.
taxiing solved...?

just one of many ways to do it.
but this is your request. Your job to figure out how it can be done.
the more thought and intelligence you pour into this, the easier it is to implement your dream.

just having some visual porn in your mind, as you clearly have, and then leaving the others to figure out a way to get it done...
WTH? YOU want this. Use your brain to pave the way! I am sure you can figure out some solution propositions so this does not need to be a cosmetik "fake traffic" kind of thing.
