Why?
They took ages to get it flying, and when it finally did, it was so short and so unstable, they had a hard time getting the freakin thing off the ground.

And YOU think its a good idea to go hunt Ju-188s with that?
think of it, imagine it in the field, based in england or france...

I mean...?!

[not being against experimental aircraft, northrop did good work and all - but there are reasons this thing was never put in the hands of a regular pilot]

I agree mate, the tone of the reply was a little personal, but I am sure you did not intend it to be so. This was just a request, not an announcement of the direction IL2 modding will be going for the next 5 years :)

And as requests goes, nothing wrong with this one. An entire version of IL2 (1946) was based on including many prototypes and some even wishful dreaming planes that should and could never have been flown, but we always want to give them a go anyway, because they are cool. So this one is not so weird.

I also enjoyed reading the summary that the original poster posted. Interesting stuff. Thanx for sharing it.

well, okay... ?
defnitely no agressive intention.

nut i want the request to make sense. Its okay to request something, no bad thing at all bringing new ideas to the table.

but a request  potentially leads to a lot of work and hopes.
and therefor a lot of thought should be put into any request, looking at facts, reasons, how it could work as a plane, how it could work inside IL-2...

not just: oh this is a sexy ride, i want it!
that is too easy.

it means a thousand hours of work for one plane to satisfy one guy for 5 minutes before it becomes clear that the plane makes no sense and can barely be used.

be smart, put some thought in these requests.

I always do, and another thing. I realize That you're slightly bitter towards this idea, however it would have been worse if i requested for example a paper airplane.

nono, not bitter.
if bitter, then towards the request quality. a pictture,  some wiki text, i am missing your personal ideas.
but bitter is a negative word. i want to push you a bit into defining this piece, refining the request.
Look at this plane! look at the numbers. look at the plans. look at the options.

Things like:
-what would you do with it?
-where would you use it? would you use it offensively as an escort(1000 km endurance...? useless?) or defensively (climb rate...rocks?!!)? what scenario? what continent? what enemy?
-what would you change so this wannabe fighter becomes a proper fighter? because as is, it sucked so bad, the army wanted none of it. what would you alter, change, modify to remedy its defects?
- would you, could you technically imagine a set of droptanks or bombs?

Not bitter.
just curious of what you think. wishing you could provide more to the request.
because as it stands all you think is....

" think this would be a very interesting plane to have in the game. I find that even though the game is called IL-2 1946, it doesn't seem to have enough experimental aircraft in it. "

"it is cool"
"ugh... its not a paper plane"

come on, you can do better.

bitter and twisted, like my coffee, lol, Tiffie. jokes aside, nothing wrong with this request at all, but always good to provide as much motivation as possible - a good request does exactly that - it motivates a modder to do it, so in that sense, it could use more info, but even as it stands, the request is fine and the plane is interesting
carry on, gents ;)

well, seeing how this is a prop driven yankee "komet" with an awesome climb rate but no fuel to fly anywhere i can only imagine it being used in the defense of london from the Buzz bombs. Or in a post war scenario where a bunch of Tupolevs need to be intercepted.

yea but you can add droptanks?!
but then the climb rate and top speed goes to hell. and she is too difficult to handle in a dogfight over enemy territory.

had the brits had a hundred of these in 1940... and the competent pilots to handle them.
the sky immediately over London, when the 109s had already turned back, would have been swiped spotless clean. spotless.
Imagine Goering sending 250 Bombers in the morning, and all he has left in the evening is 50 of them and another 50 heavily damaged, and the crews refusing to do another run.

The P-65 could have given a big "piss off" sign to the fat guy. Hitler would have battered him to death with his Reichsmarschall Staff.
