AI Downgrade
« on: October 14, 2014, 09:37:04 PM »

Hi all.

I am just wondering if a mod could be made that would revert the 4.11 + AI back to earlier levels of difficulty. It is just frustrating(for me) to not be able to dogfight enemy planes without getting completely swarmed and shot to heck. If this is not possible, there are other alternatives, but it would be nice if something like this could be made.

Thank you for reading.

Yeah, in 4.12 its a real achievement if you make it back to base. Now tha AI can really shoot and even average skilled enemies are really dangerous. I like this a lot, it made my gaming experience a lot better, like flying in a real war. Iirc the new AI is inside some dll encrypted by TD.

Yeah I've noticed the same thing that vpmedia described. I got use to it and am starting to get better at countering the swarms. Just give it some time. You should get more use to the difficulty.

4.12 is definitely much harder. You really have to think about your position, keep a look out, think about when and how to attack and keep close to your flight. Feels much more real like VP said.

I started re-learning using QMB - first attacking bombers, then single rookie fighter, then increase the skill, then two fighters at rookie etc. Worth a try before you roll back to a previous version. I also suggest you fly a user-friendly aircraft with good armament  - 109 or later spitfire with cannons will increase your likelihood of a kill when you're on target

The Enemy shoots a little better but My wingmen don't when i need help scraping some persistent Me-109 off my tail.

Actually most of the time the first burst usually misses me letting me know i didn't check my six often enough.
That will change as soon as my TrackIR gets here.  :)

I notice the Ruski pilots actually use stalls to disengage from a fight.

I've actually found it a bit easier in 4.12. You can now use clouds to duck into, make a quick evasive manoeuvre (usually to the left - the AI guys seem to like to go right) and pop out somewhere else. I've also found that you can now outrun those planes that used to strap on rockets and hit mach 1.5, with engines burning, and get around on your ass.

Just my two cents (Canadian - so it's like a half cent anywhere else).

I agree. 4.12.2 AI is too much for the most of us (unreal skills in green or average class). HSFX 6 or TD 4.11 had got the better AI for years in this sim.

Thank you in advance.

When faced with AI opponents that seam to out class you in anyway, just nose dive.  About a 70 degree angel will make them piss their pants, then when they pull up you do the same and get on their tail.  Another good tactic is to skim the ground, that'll scare the piss outta them too. ;)

That was exactly what I was talking about when I said I got around their skill.
