Could you elaborate a bit on that, with BoS being an extreme design?

What most people fail to see is the DevĀ“s vision to get new people getting in to combat flight sim, and for this BOS is actually perfect. They only keep forgetting that it was already a community putting money into this Alpha and believed in it. To me it seems they are trying to replace and not increase the community.

leone, how can this clusterfuck of an FMB be called perfect for dragging new people into the CFS genre?
That aspect of BoS isnt perfect at all. the interface is so useless, you might as well work with a command line prompt:
Set:map;date;weathercondition
add:unit01:model=he111:state=AI:loadout=satanbomb;fuel0.75;
goto:unit01; X;Y;Z;orientation;
addwp01;unit01:X;Y;Z:name="IP";speed;formtype=wedge;specialaction=openbbdoors;

and from the intelligence point of view, they are too braindead to ship a copy of their "official FMB Guide" for ROF with the 1.009 patch.

you do not draw people into flightsims like that, throw them a program and "go figure it the f-bomb out".

No one expected IL 2 superb interface in a 777 product, look at CLOD . While Fmb is a treat the rest is not a improvement.
Once you get used to the idea that we never going to see a new IL 2 again, you pretty much focused on eyecandy and fm.
New simmers do not use any missions editor.
I comming home now after a long workperiod, I will take time for both IL 2 and BOS

Could you elaborate a bit on that, with BoS being an extreme design?

The single player campaign is a hybrid between a combat flight sim and Doom, for starters.  It has no military ranks.  It has fictional medals instead of real military medals.  You don't progress in time, but rather fly on Groundhog's Day (you can go back in time, you can go forward in time, or you can fly in the same time forever).  You don't fly for any given squad or even one country.  You can't create a pilot character.  1CGS has said all along that the primary focus of BoS was on single player customers which have made up 90 to 95% of IL-2 and RoF customers historically (according to 1CGS).  So for 90 to 95% of the potential customers for BoS this single player content is unlike anything they have seen before.  Its like Le0ne said, it is more like 1CGS was trying to replace their customers rather than increase them.

1CGS hasn't gone after the traditional combat flight sim market and other potential publishers watching this will recognize it immediately.  If BoS fails in the single player market it will be very clear to the combat flight sim customer base as well as savvy publishers as to why.

A pity though that there will be no Moscow on the Battle of Moscow map.  :-X

A shame, but when you consider the amount of work and research to model the whole of Central Moscow undamaged to a decent level it is understandable, also there were few actual raids on Moscow centre and those that took place were at night, the last one resulting in a single Me110 getting through and dropping its load on an airfield and damaging an IL-2.

The bulk of the Battle took place in the outer suburbs which are on the map, while not ideal to have Moscow central missing it  certainly makes sense leave it out for the sake of a few night bombing raids that few would ever play.

The Stalingrad city map is actually very accurate, if they did a half arsed job of Moscow they would be universally panned. I would rather their recourses were used to make the "next" map than providing Moscow for some fantasy sightseeing  8)

Summer maps are on the way

I would rather their resources were used to complete what was promised in BoS Developer Diary #21:

"When you begin the Historical campaign you'll be prompted to choose which one of operation's phases you want to start in. If it's your first time in Battle of Stalingrad only the first phase will be available. If you've previously made progress in the campaign then each of the previous phases will be available so you're not limited to just the current phase. All operational phases are unique in regards of disposition of troops, defensive lines, weather conditions, aircraft in theatre and squadrons taking part in the action. Your progress to the next phases depends on successful completion of missions in each phase.

When you enter a phase you'll be asked to join a regiment. The regiments available vary from phase to phase the way it happened back then during Battle of Stalingrad: some squadrons leave, some come to the front lines, join other units or get renamed. Which regiment you choose defines which side you server with - Soviet Air force or German Luftwaffe. You'll be free to change sides before every mission. Thus, all your stats gathered in the game get bound to your account while specific data is split in two separate profiles - USSR and Germany.

Every regiment has a home base and specific aircraft in service. You can use any plane that your regiment has available. Remember, that a plane's design defines the type of mission you'll be offered to play. If you choose a fighter, ground attack or bomber the gameplay will be different which helps us bring you three different flight-sim experiences. The types of missions that are offered are very diverse and give you the freedom to choose one that suits you best. Some players prefer intense dogfights or ground assaults against armor or massive bombing raids hitting transportation lines or troops."

1CGS still has a promise to keep, yet they move on to BoM with no mention of the above.

I don't think 3d modellers and map making resources will  have much effect on campaign/mission design but anyway..
As much as the campaign was a disappointment in scope to many including myself, holding the Devs to a "promise" that was made in June 2013 very early in the design process and which was later explained as not possible to implement in later Dev diaries long before the game was released seems a bit pointless..as much as a disappointment as it is.

As original IL-2 matured it was not the original shipped campaigns that secured its popularity

Now, you cannot blame shores road for keeping us reminded by the same mantra we heard since the whole idea was launched. There are many people in sim community that decided 777 steals the brand and was the one plugged BOM as a successor/addon for cod.
And it is all bullshit.
In fact it should be a law against bringing up old and overspend issues like that. It is over, BOS is what it is and BOM is pretty much the same with in my opinion more interesting planes. It is time to just play it or leave it.
I kind of hope they survive long enough for a Kuban/ Kursk map with HS 129 and P-39. I would love to have those iconic planes in a eastern front scenario

Since version 1.0.11, older missions and tracks may not be compatible anymore, you may have a "blue snow"
Forutnatly (I hope I am not off topics :) ), there is a fix :

"To fix the blue snow - you need to update the cloud config:

1. Either open the mission with mission editor and go to atmosperic options screen and set new cloud config from drop down and then save the mission.

2. Or open .Mission file with a text editor and change:

CloudConfig = "01_Light_00\sky.ini";
.. to:
CloudConfig = "winter\01_Light_00\sky.ini";

That is, add "winter\" in front of the path."
