to take the hump over perceived insults.

That is a gross insult to all of us who suffer with such a physical deformity.
I demand that you withdraw the remark immediately.  ;)

I've read it at simhq. I do not visit the official forums. But its obvious to me that the unlock feature was not removed - despite huge community protest - because they had plans for it.

Latest news I heard is micropayments for unlocks.

Till sofar I've only seen it mentioned in Heinkill's review, as a kind of speculation:

This workaround in any case should simply not be necessary and the fact the game developers themselves are proposing workarounds, instead of reacting to criticism and saying they will change this system, is either silly or part of a long term plan to use the XP grinding system to earn micropayments for DLC later. A scenario where in the future the makers will change the game such that you have to grind for field mods, or can buy them as DLC, is not too far fetched. After all, they already sell field mods as DLC in their other title, Rise of Flight.

I've also read about it at the BOS forums micropayments being mentioned by members but no official word from the BOS team. Or did I miss something?

You should be very careful with the stuff that's posted at SimHQ and also at Metacritics at the moment. It's fine when people criticize the game and the developers when it's justified, but it seems a few people are deliberatly posting exaggerated or false rumors.

Today it's the second advent, shopping feast at Knoches this sunday.
I have left cash to spent, guess what it will be? Hint-Hint
Will storm the Shop that offers BOS and conquer my personal Retail example
in an epic duel.
To close a good clash, I will bring out a toast to all free minded Simmers
in that virgin moment, with a good tasty mug of Glow whine and rum.
After it i'll meet Finni and Rudi, our finnish Reindeers.

Wish me good luck.
Cheers

If it would be up to me I'd remove this entire BoS forum section until they fix their game.
Latest news I heard is micropayments for unlocks. Makes me feel that I wasnt born with enough middle fingers :)
reminds me of that little black and white GIF.

But Micropayments are the way to go for many companies.
If that Micropayment system ever makes it,  Gots to be simulation standard. Think of FSX.
There is a Fw-190 package for FSX, and the hardcore simmers love that Piece of kit.
http://www.classics-hangar.de/produkte_fw190a_CD.htm?product=F1E-190-001

Now, we all know that FSX comes with the ole cessna and the dakota, some Boeing flying Bus...
and then a modder makes this Pack available, This piece of Software that gets medals from all over the world.
and it uses as much monetary resources as the original game, and as many CPU and HDD resources too.

I would not mind emulating such a system in BoS, if it is indeed for a Simulating element, tool, i buy.
A plane that i can Fly.

OtoH, offering a feature, a Piece of Kit or ammo...
Paying for a Wurfgranate, 21cm Rocket... meh.
paying for an MW-50 refill... r u focke-wulf sirius?
paying for a red scarf... WTF is that!

That's the kind of Unlock shaft that is wasting the Game's Potential away.

But eh...
microtransactions are at the moment not a subject, not that i know of.
not even to remove an unlock. That would just look them like  mafiosi kind asshats, and they know it.

The difference would be that games like Rise of Flight, War Thunder, and DCS World are FREE to download and play. There is no way in hell I would pay $90 or $50 for Battle of Stalingrad just to have to pay more to unlock planes or features of those planes. IF BoS was able to be downloaded for free or if we got the Russian two planes for ten bucks version that would be a different story.

I hope they survive and develop BOS further, but to be honest if they survive it is because of the starvation the community got on WW2 combat sim. Not because they earned it. They have beed stubborn and stupid from day one.
I can live without this sim, by now I probably can live without any sim. because it is drowned by politics and hate. Those not allowing the hate are at best arrogant.
Personally I had it with all sorts of site politics and negativity puked out where ever I look.

It will be interesting to see if they manage to do a comeback.

Imho people are upset because the whole IL-2 SoW - CoD - BoS endless waiting periods and then the huge disapointments, many people had to return to IL-2 1946.
The disapointments was made bigger by the fact that BOS looked very good until the end when they introduced their offline mode.
