Well, the game is addictive , I miss it when I am away for work. And it got something special. I think I never will regret buying it. In COD you need over a hour to have fun, in BOS the fun comes right away and half a hour can bring you heaven or hell.
You get annoyed by the missed potential, it could have been perfect. But it is still a masterpiece of a sim, not bad at all in its own ways

Well for those never tried DCS and COD, BOS is in all aspect a very modern version of IL2 . The control settings and atmosphere is the same

I was under the impression that there is a version in an actual box that you can buy for cash dollars inside a real physical store. Is this true? What stores are supposed to be carrying it?

nono, physical shops... i would be very surprised to see BoS on a shelf somewhere in this time of digital distribution.

But even then, the Lolz is that all you get is a nice box, a map, and ultimately... a steam key...

As long as there are theater which can only be simulated with Il2, I will never uninstall it.

Well said mate, I feel the same way. But I dont think that any future sim will have a Kurland, Khalkin Gol or a Balaton map. :)

Il-2 with mods will possibly never be matched for choice of maps and theatres, but BoS is not two months old from official release, and already has one mod map, and with the larger Velikie Luki Map having it's finishing touches done...original IL-2 took many years to get its first Mod map, as the release stabilises and the final content (D/server/skins/and ME) arrive, with the map tools in existence I think there could be a good chance of many more user made maps, maybe even some of those mentioned  :)

Sorry not a very darkside post...but in other news barking dogs have been added to the villages  ;)

Cheers Dakpilot

There are simply nothing better than IL2 out there, BOS is a refreshing something else, COD is for a hour a week with squad mates. IL 2 I think is forever.
We probably need to revitalize and gain strength in the modding department. We seems to have work to do years to come

i beg to differ...
today we need to split installations because of the java limit. Hangars be full.

all of 1946's shader techniques have been updated since 2004/5/6. Il-2 is Bland, flat, Bump-less

MP is empty. no more 999 players that HL can hold. The Players have moved on, the squadrons have moved on.

Il-2 is edgy. It was Low-poly, essentials-only from the very beginning, when i flew CFS3 and FS2002 in parallel [only the cockpits were better]. These straight lines must be gone at some point. All Planes need a complete overhaul from scratch to be acceptable. Spinner to rudder, wingtip to wingtip.

I could go on with Lighting, dynamics in flight and scenery, streets, railroads, airplane systems, scenery elements to need a complete overhaul to bring them up to today's standards to appeal to "the people"

basically - check the positive thread for a set of reasons why i disagree.

When comparing Both platforms on the same elements, 1946 even with mods can barely provide me with an immersive, challenging, satisfying flight.
Sure it has carriers and Tons of Maps. and planes that all have the standard amount of systems. But they do not immerse me, do not challenge me as much in my flying.

Like XP... its time has come.

Where 1946 currently wins hands down is the FMB. That is one awesome, wonderful piece of hoochie woochie. Part movie Set, part Playground, part Mission builder. the new one will be a tough nut to crack i hear.

I think you are wrong, I think IL2 is going to be stable or even grow over time. I am more sure now than before the release of BOS
