Hi Uzin!

I read about this .. "miracle" someday but never understood it.
The formular alway worked for me, in the "old" actors program as well as in Zuti's tool.

Please see the values from the Baltic Sea map:

Well,
I did not tested this "miracle" , just obeyed blindly the Zutis manual.
Your Manual to mapmaking is admirable piece of work, of course. I shall study it more thoroughly.
There are also some possibilities as for stock bridges at zero height: there are bridges as objects available, which may be located at nonzero height.
Whole map terrain height adjustment by GIMP is also described in my Afghanistan wip map. There I adjusted airfields height nearer to reality.
Best regards,
Ivan Uzin

Excellent piece of work Seppel.

Plenty to go through, I'm sure there's many things in there I didn't know or fully understand.

Thanks a lot for the polite response you all!
I am very happy that you found it useful!

@ Uzin - About the bridges:
You are right of course! But if you use "object bridges" vehicles won't be able to pass or cross them.
That is what I find important - especially for mission builders...

Hi guys!

I want to offer another little guide for a special map work.

I call it "Reduction of existing maps". It descripes a way to cut out, or better to copy, a single area out of a larger map, to save it as a new, smaller one.

This might be interesting, if one finds, that a map has got a very important or interesting area for missions or campaigns, but covers too much further landscape arround.

Anyway, maybe some guys find it useful...

Now included in the "main" handbook! (11.01.25)

Hi everyone!

Due to the long work on my Baltic Sea map (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,72324.0.html)
I learned a lot about map making.
Althoug I'm far away from being an expert, I wrote a little handbook for map builders and like to offer it as an PDF here.
Maybe the one or another will find it useful. Let me know!

The new handbook had been reworked and is out now:
(now with the former stand alone "Handbook for map reduction" included)

(11.01.2025)

Cheers, Seppel

This is fantastic to see it updated!

Hi Seppel, your manual, together with Kevin's manual and the huge "informal manual" made up of a huge amount of small lessons, experiences and tools scattered around the forum and contributed by many map makers, has been fundamental for me when taking the first steps in map making. Thank you for your generosity, Seppel, master of cartographers!

Too much of honour!! :-)
Thanks a lot!
It is enough for me, that some of you like it and find it useful.

If I ever could help you with map making Haukka ...

Thanks for the offer. I've survived so far, but if I ever find myself in a pinch, I'll call on your expertise. Best wishes.!  ;)
