"paste from file"
« on: November 20, 2014, 06:04:58 AM »

Hi!

I have a question:

I found out, that I can fill objects from one map into another, by right click and "paste from file".
But this seems not to work in each case??

I wanted to paste the factories and train stations (I saved them in a special actors.static for to keep them for other maps) from the Silesia map into my Frisia map, but they didn't upload?

What did I do wrong??

Hi,

I have the same issue but however it's possible to transfer a group of objects from a map to another one.
simply select these objects by "alt" and left clic maintained. When the objects are red then press "ctrl" and "c" : these objects are copied. Open an over map and on the new one "clic" your mouse and after press "ctrl" and "v" : your objects are paste to this over map. So it's possible to move this group of object or rotate them in order to place them correctly on the new map !
It work in FMB and unlocked FMB. However when you work on "heavy maps" the game can sometime freeze and you have the message : "IL-2fb.exe a cessé de fonctionner" . (you need a lot of memory allocation to do that successfully.)
I hope you will understand me !? Sorry, I'm french....

Thanks tbauchot!

I'll try this!
But I'm afraid it won't work, as my Edtior allway freezes, when I try to load a map after another was loaded..

But hope dies last! :D

Hi, Seppel,
after selecting the group of objects (not too large) in the first map by Alt + left mouse  and Ctrl+C, EXIT the first map, get to FMB again and open the second map. It works.
As for the "paste from file" method, you must have the first map prepared so as it  contains ONLY the objects you want to paste. I have read this somewhere here at SAS, but I am using the first method.

Hey!
It worked great!

Now I can use my train stations, church yards and factories from the Silesia map again.

Paste by file only works when an object group has been made on the same map you are trying to paste onto.
You can not save an actors of a object group from one map and then paste by file to another map.
map coordinates come into play ;)

It is more for when a few different people work on the same map, they can send the saved actors of an object group or area they work on to another person to paste by file onto that others person map

As an example, five different people working on the same map
each builds different things or areas such as one person builds Harbours, one person airfields and so on
whoever is in charge of compiling everything gets the Harbours actors sent to him,and the airfield actors sent to him.
Then that person can paste by file those actors to the Master map which is then compiled into the actual final map

This way the objects and group of objects have map coordinates that work and situate the objects and or group of objects onto the map in the exact location they were made for.

That's the only way I have been able to paste by file

Cheers,happy holidays  ;)

I have to disagree!
I was able to integrate some Train stations from my Jamaica map into my Silesia map.
But I do believe, that you are right about the map sizes. Jamaica and Silesia were quite big, but when i tried to install the stations from Silesia in my very small Frisia map, it won't work.

So I guess, the size must be NEARLY the same!?

Cheers

Interesting thought,I'm pretty sure some default maps are the same size and could be used to experiment with

However,in order to save something from one map to use on another map one would have to delete everything else on the first map in order to just save the objects in question that were wanted so as to be able to save an actors.static then of just those wanted objects without saving everything else on the map in the actors

I still believe the paste by file function is a development tool used by Devs to co-work a map as a group of people, each being able to save there own work without anything else on the map. Each person keeps working as an individual saving his or hers actors.static of there work.Eventually each individuals work is decompiled from the saved actors.static that each of them saved of there work and then compiled into one Master actors.static to combine all of each indivdual work together to make a final map.

This is could be an easy way to get a map quickly populated with unique objects groups
the map can still be auto-popped etc. and have interesting object groups added from many different individual perceptions

either way it is definitely map  co-ordinates involved...
because saving the actors the objects all have coordinates in the text files of each object!

Cool thought, will have to play around with a couple of maps the same size and see what comes out of it  ;D
