Strategic bombing - first dynamic on new Europe map (demo)
« on: December 01, 2014, 05:35:05 AM »

For the first time in IL-2 history, i would like to present to you dynamic campaign of RAF strategic bomber. Making of this campaign finally became possible only with "La Chute - The Fall" big Europe map by kwm_spit973. This perfect map was released on 07.11.2014, and on the same day i begin work on campaign. I dreamed about campaign like this, since i read Guy Gibson's "Enemy Coast Ahead" in 2003. And now this is possible!

Sure, i work on campaign less than month, and this means, this is not full 1939-1944 campaign. At this moment i present only short "beta version of demo version" )) it shows Bomber Command work in times of Battle of Britain, june-october 1940. Most of the missions will be "depot attacks", and depots will be hack/substitute for Germany industrial targets. In future, i hope Asura create new strategic missions for DGEn, such as "oil refineries", "aircraft factories", etc. There also few port in northern Germany attacks.

This is important!!! Demo version will not have enough testing, and this means you can meet many bugs and errors!

To play this "beta version of demo version" you need HSFX 7.03, and of course, absolutely enormous Europe map by kwm_spit973:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42939.0.html

Sure, you need DGEN latest version by Asura, which you always can find here:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,20104.0.html

Also you need Armstrong Whitworth Whitley, which you can find here:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,40642.0.html
Known trouble - in HSFX 7.03 Whitley do not have working bomb sight. I hope someone can resolve this issue.

"Command & Concuer mod" - this is not necessary, but i recommend to you use this mod. Campaign updated with C&C objects, which will be very useful in long flights over Germany.
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,26654.0.html

Known issues:
- campaign set to night flights, but DGEN current version can generate some missions in day time. Will be fixed in future.
- bombsight in Whitley doesn't work - use Wellington as flyable, or make divebombing in Whitley;)
- there are not enough targets in Germany, at this moment only 7 or 8 industrial targets (depots) and 1 port. This means, you will be sent to same targets repeatedly - i built many new targets in future versions.
- i tested campaign not enough, this can be many small bugs and errors.
- there are not historical squadrons set. At this moment we do not have most of RAF bomber squadrons in IL-2. This will be fixed in future patches by DT.

Install:
1 - Install DGEN.exe latest version, i hope all perfectly clear with this;)
2 - Install Europe map and Whitley
3 - As usual, my campaign not compatible with any other campaigns. So, first you must backup your DGEn folder. Then put DGEN folder from download archive into your HSFX root folder.

So, there's a link to "beta version of demo version"  ;D

Another typical target: industrial area somewhere in Germany. This can be Hannover, Leuna, Jena or any other industrial city in Ruhr valley:

In 1940 Germany air defence was not so strong yet, but 88 mm. working well:

It will be pretty cool once the Lancasters and Halifaxes are involved!   :)

Skip the Whitley and take Wellingtons. Before autum winter 1942/1943 RAF was pretty bad at finding it's targets at night anyways.

Pathfinder planes with marking flares like Mosquitos and even 4 mots guided by the OBOE system changed the situation.

It's only small demo. Sure, there will be Lancasters, Halifaxes and Mosquitos soon. With Asura's help i planned to create all types of night missions: you can mark important target as pathfinder, or bomb your target using TI flames as aiming point. You can carry out intruder missions or hunt for german night fighters, clearing the way for heavy bombers, etc. Work continues, just wait and see.

But all i want at this moment, is to read your impressions of campaign, especially about completed missions  ;)
