Ilmensee Project
« on: December 03, 2014, 04:37:47 PM »

The Lake Ilmen project was initiated by Marjak because it`s a huge gap in the maps available in Il-2. Many thanks for the trigger, I wouldn`t have come across this plane myself.

And now some information on the project. I`ve just finished the map_c, and the villages are done by autopop. Now I`m working on the cities and textures which will take a while to accomplish. In any case I will post some WIP-pics when some progress has been made.

The scale of the map is 1:1. In the south the map is restricted by the area 30km south of Smolensk, in the north by Leningrad, in the west by Pskov and Ostrov and in the east by a line 100 km east of Rzhev and Vyasma. I really hope that this project got your attention.

(I for sure will not draw water maps for quite a long time)

Cheers

Klaus

This is a great map area.  It's just what I've been asking for.  The main thing I'd like to see is the Tikhvin region in the northeast where the Germans made their deep advance to the east in 1941.  But I can't really see if that is included.
Good luck!

CzechTexan,

Tikhvin is of course included on this map.

Also, have a look here. It`s another map that covers the region Volkhov - Tikhvin:

Hello, Klaus109!
I'm personally very thankful to you for creating this project! :)
I was born in Moscow, now live in the Saint-Petersburg, but my 'Little Motherland' is Luga town,
where my grandmother was born and where I was practically all the summers in my life.
To be more exact, not in the Luga, but in the village in the south of it, called 'Zaozerye' (Behind-the-lake in English).
But Luga is very native for me too, we often were there.

I've tried to find these places in the Leningrad map, but not succeed :(
And finally I see that you are making the map that will cover my native places! :D
You can't imagine how am I happy and how am I waiting for the release of this map!

If you will have some difficulties making this map, write to me, I will try to help you if I can.

And finally, a one question: how long do you think it will take for you to complete and release this map?

Cheers :)

That looks really great. I have some old wartime photos and city-maps of Smolensk and Vitebsk that I would be glad to contribute.
