Question regarding Positions of flights

Hi guys.

I'm currently working on an IJA '46 campaign where the player flies the Ki-201 (modded and unmodded version planned).

I'm kinda stuck on one detail, however.

In the beginning, YP-80s have not made an appearance, and the USAAF decides to discontinue escorting the raids (with P-51s/P-47s) in favor of jumping the growing number of Japanese jets when they are landing or taking off by means of low-alt raids.

The YP-80s eventually make their appearance, and the player's life gets quite a bit harder, but I'm wondering if the USAAF would actually utilize the tactic described or not.

So I'm asking anyone who would like to place opinion their view towards this.
