Kurland, revisited
« on: January 26, 2015, 01:26:57 AM »

Reenacting the brave aerial fighting of JG 54 against VVS and Normandie-Niemen. Player may fight also on Red side, either for 3rd Guards IAP, with Lavochkin La-5 and La-7, or for French, flying Yak-3.

BACKGROUND (quoting Wikipedia)
"In 1944, the Red Army lifted the siege of Leningrad and re-conquered the Baltic area along with much of Ukraine and Belarus. However, some 200,000 German troops held out in Courland. With their backs to the Baltic Sea, they were trapped in what became known as the Courland Pocket, blockaded by the Red Army and the Red Baltic Fleet."

REQUIREMENTS
The included Asura’s DGen_MOD v2.0.1.2 must be installed with all of its files as included. As a consequence, this is a standalone campaign: do not try to play it at same time with other DGen campaigns (you can play static campaigns, though). It is not allowed to play it with other versions of Asura’s DGen_MOD different from that contained in this pack.

Tested with 4.09m and 4.12.2m, should work in any version from 4.07m onward, as well as in any modded environment (DBW, HSFX, ModAct, etc.).

Link for download

Enjoy!

Well, first of all, this DGen campaign works on Kurland map without Ostfront, thanks to Asura's proprietary DGen; indeed, the campaign does not use anything from Ostfront, sharing only the map, otherwise included in all stock game versions, at least from 4.07m (the older I have installed - but I think even from 4.04m or earlier).

For the rest I dedicated assuring it working on all possible version of game, trying to exploit all available features to comply with historical facts. For instance, I gave, wherever possible the Fw 190A armament deprived of outboard wing cannons, according to what I could find in literature (please watch following examples):

version 4.12.2 allows a nice "fighter" loadout option, just modeling this feature, but for compatibility issue with older versions I was forced to set U3, which adds empty bomb rack too.

Unfortunately, neither TD nor modder applied this feature to later variants (A-8/A-9), on the contrary of what witnessed by literature:

Like in all my campaigns, a quite accurate setting of daylight range of hours (sunrise and sunset times) as well as local weather averages (good/bad weather probability), both based on meteorological data (centered on Riga values), have been set, to bring player possibly close to geographical reality.

I would have been more accurate about historical squadrons, at least on German side, since right now, developing a 4.09 dedicated version, I'm noticing some Gruppe couldn't be there or still was after I removed (like III./JG51)... Sorry!

Updated to version 1.1: featuring flyable P-39/63 and Yak-9. Minor refinements.

Same link as above.

Sorry, I'm becoming lazy, lately: would be grateful to anyone would post some screenshot showing new player's planes.

Cheers,
