Hello,

I have taken interest in making a mission on the Northwest Europe map. I have heard that this is a "generic" map that is only meant to be a facsimile of northwest Europe, not an accurate representation. However, I have seen a picture where it is situated on a big collection of maps, posted by Beebop, here: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=ForumsPro&file=viewtopic&t=4779&start=0&finish=15

Is it truly generic, or does it seem to represent an area? What are your thoughts.

Somewhere in betwwen, the map developpers said they based their work on an existing place

I don't think it represents exactly that area. It is too generic for my feeling.
If it is really that part of Germany then it should be very densily populated including the industrial 'Ruhrgebiet'.
The ingame map looks more rural to me.

By the way, do yourself a favour and get the wonderfully reworked NW Europe map by may-bug.

I have been looking at a map of Europe, trying to see where the developers got their inspiration for this map. Could it be somewhere in Belgium? But, there aren't enough rivers in Belgium for it to seem that way. The Netherlands? Or farther east... Hamburg?

I am pretty sure that its entirely imaginary, just intended to give the feel of Northwest Europe.

I suggest to add the true rivers net to that map and some smaller inhabited centers = > inland central Germany or southeast Belgium ?

I remember the very first time I opened this map I thought it represented my country. The Netherlands.
Because of the flat landscape, long straight canals and its windmills. On the other hand it could also be Germany because of the typical 'Fachwerk' houses the map is populated with.
But these houses might have been used for the very simple reason there were no typical Dutch houses available.
I assume if it really represents an existing area it should be Germany + The Netherlands (at least nót the southern part because there are no hills rendered on the map).

As I see it it can not be Belgium + Germany because The Ardennes with its hills and woods are not present.

An additional note, although the map is truly thought to be fictional, I found a quote from another forum-goer in 2008 that thought that the map represents the German Vogtland region in western Saxony, with proximity to the Weiße Elster and Zwickauer Mulde rivers.
