Hello

I just learnt how to add a plane that's already in my IL2 1946 TFM 412 install, for example the P-38, to a stock DGEN campaign (I'm assuming DGEN in 4.12.2 TFM 412 is stock?), by editing the relevant campaign file, for example to add the P-38 to the USAAF New Gunea campaign you edit the plane list in planesUSP.dat under the [NewGuinea] heading.

However, I'm wondering, apart from, for example, allowing you to fly the P-38 in a Dynamic Campaign out of New Guinea, what does adding a plane to the list of planes flyable in a specific DGEN career do?

Does it modify the type of missions/enemies you'll get based on the new plane (if you choose to use it) or do you get the same missions/enemies based on the original planes available, thus in effect you're flying missions designed specifically for a P-39 in a P-38?

TIA

Maybe you solved it since than, but I tell my experience. Many years before I did the same (maybe with v4.09 or v4.10), I added P-38 to New Guinea campaign, the P-38J. As the earlier subtypes were available (from E to H) I tried to add some of them, with no success. Maybe I would needed to modify some other files for these aircrafts, so I sticked to the game's stock version, the P-38J, because that worked fine.

DGen has a set of planes, maps and nations written inside that are the sole it can recognize. This set is stuck to v4.08 of the game. As a consequence, you may add, for instance, P-38J but not CW-21. Kind of missions picked for this plane are affected by its own "class": being a multi-role, you'll get any kind of mission. There are no missions designed just for a plane, but for "roles" (fighter, fighter-bomber, etc.).
