that one?

Omg. Uuugh, yupp, this hurts, it poked out my eyes...

Ahhh, the awfull waste of russian ressources, their early giants. The Flintstones type planes.
The Ant-20 costed Revojenztjev 6 mill. Rubels, money they could have spent better. It is too streamlined for my taste.

Similar ugly ducklins are Tarrant Tabor, Handley-Page Heyford.
The Tabor the peak of how high a Triplane could be built before
breaking apart.

The Fairey Barracuda and most early designs by Blackburn:

Although they eventually got better with the Firebrand:

and the Buccaneer which can be both ugly and beautiful:

Barracuda? Nice. Open your mind...
Firebrand? Ah well... mediocre.
Buccaneer: A sheer beauty!

To me there are simply no ugly aircraft, I find the Barracuda fascinating, the crew disliked it because of things like overheating problems and other shortcomings

This is like Starwars a Beriev Bartini VVA 14 flew purely on ground effect

Personally I love the crop dusters, I hate what they do

This looks overdeveloped Boeing X-32

I can't recall that early italian raceplane, looked similar to the Gee-Bee,
that was an ugly design, to me, but this italian one topped ugliness.
It had a huge engine, btw the whole plane was built around it,
but it seemed like a naval Diesel Engine or from an early coal steamer.

The Caproni-Stipa wasn't a racer, but an experimental aircraft for "ducted fan" concept (elica intubata in italian). And yes, was really an ugly plane!  ;D

But I vote for another italian plane: Savoia Marchetti S.M.85 dive bomber, "Flying Banana".

S.M.86W was better...

And another strange plane from Italy: S.M.93 dive bomber prototype (with the pilot in prone position)

Bye!

if its so ugly, why do people waste their time building them?

Is this like a "contest" in the human race to see which tribe builds the ugliest looking thing?  :D

I must disagree : according to me, nothing with a Daimler-Benz DB 605A liquid-cooled V12 engine should appear in such a thread  :D

Don't think I'd want to be flying this over any angry or hungry tribes.  ;D
