Towing gliders
« on: March 26, 2015, 12:08:49 PM »

Hi everyone :)

I have a question about gliders: (Currently using UP3RC4)
I attached a Me-321 on a He-111Z and want the 321 to be towed to another airfield. When arriving there it should unhook from the Heinkel and land.
This is how I set the waypoints: (ZZ-IH is the 321, ZZ-EH the Heinkel)

The Problem is, the 321 does not unhook.. it keeps following the Heinkel to its last waypoint...

Then I tried to let both planes land on the AF

Now the 321 does unhook, but makes no attempt to land on the AF ... it just keeps sailing until it hits the water...
Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong up there? How do I bring these planes to do what I want them to do?

Thank you for your help :)

Best Regards,

Hi skylla,

don't know what you want exactly, but download this please.

Just made it for you, says more than thousend words  ;)

Regards, Gerhard

Even the games manual.pdf says that you need to test the mission in order to find out what the gliders will choose as the landing place, so its pretty much trial and error.

Quote
SPECIAL FEATURE: HOW TO ATTACH AIRCRAFT TO EACH OTHER
There are certain combinations of aircraft, such as the Betty bomber with the Ohka flying
bomb, that start off attached to each other and then detach during the course of the mission.
1. Set all waypoints for the flight of the mother aircraft.
2. Set only one waypoint for the child aircraft and locate the waypoint close to the first waypoint
of the mother ship.
3. Set the target object of the child’s first waypoint to the mother ship’s first
waypoint.
4. Don’t set any waypoints other than the first for the child aircraft. It will follow the plane
automatically.
5. You can set these first waypoints for both planes in the air or on the ground (takeoff).
Note: These contraptions cannot land attached to each other. If you set the landing waypoint
for one of the two planes, the child will disconnect and try to find an area for landing. When
you carry out such missions, you should remember that only in the test flights can you get the
right result and make sure the child does not land in a forest or a city, for example.

Gerhard and vpmedia, thank you very much for your help :)

Looks like there's much more randomness and testing involved than I thought... The Mission is another one for the Server; a "what if" dealing with the planned "Operation Seelöwe" (Invasion of England) in 40/41.
I wanted lots of gliders being towed over the channel and land on RAF Hawkinge and Lympe (prey for the clowns). As I can't ensure where they land it might be better to use 323s... nevertheless I'm gonna give it a go and see what comes out.

ok skylla, it'll be only a "fun mission" then.

Both Me 321/ 323 are not usable early '41.

But these canvas carriers looking good...  :)

If I had a DFS-230 I would use that, but unfortunately...
We have a an allied glider that looks a bit similar apart from it's invasion stripes...
The Me-321 was extra constructed for "Seelöwe", so I thought it would be a good replacement..
The 323 is not suitable for sure, that's why I don't like the idea to use it  :(

(btw: I discovered that you can use another plane than He-111Z as tug. I'd love to bring three 110s to tow the 321, but that's impossible for IL-2 :( )

Well... invasion stripes are just a question of skin... there are some without, I think.
