"Shallows" appears as a rigid series of squares?
« on: March 26, 2015, 07:06:03 PM »

I experimented with the Waggel Nordsee map by painting "shallows" along the coasts and river mouth of the Weser River with RGB63. I blurred it along the sides of the deeper water and along the coastline.

But it turned out very bad - as a series of rigid squares and not as I had painted it. Can anyone suggest what I was doing wrong?

I never altered the shallows that way. I always opened map_c with my photo program and just used the "brush and darkened or lightened the shallow areas as I needed. I don't recall using a certain RGB. Are you running the game on perfect stings? Your pic doesn't look like it.

AFAIK, I am on "perfect". I selected Perfect in my hardware options. OTOH, I am now noticing that I have those strange "squares" in all my coastlines.

I wonder if I have missed some of my settings in the conf.ini.

Here is my current conf.ini .

I am also noticing that I have patches of no surf coastline in my unmodded game, which is a separate install. Wondering if this is a graphics card issue.

I will post my issue on the Newbies board, as it may be a basic install / graphics issue.

There is a texture that you are using for your land textures that is interfering with your shallow texture. Its not a graphics issue or driver issue. Team Pacific ran into this when we were building the Solomons maps. The other possibility is that you do not have textures allocated for that area on your map_t.

I think Skunk is right, I have seen something like that in one of my maps in CUP setup (I don't remember which one), other maps are OK - so I'm almost sure problem is caused by this particular map (probably its textures).

Greetings,

Let me mess around with the map a little more and see what happens.

I run into the exact similar issue today when editing the Oahu shallows a bit. I try to solve it by giving it an actual shallow texture aka one of SAS~Bombsaway's.
For this I have to reassign RGB 30 to a RGB 29 (possible) and use the then free slot for the shallow texture, hope that works. :P

Editing map_C is a biatch. To sum up, I stronly think the land texture assigned here gave the rectangular pattern. Some maps use the RGB 30 value for coastlines or other areas and do not have shallows active in map_c.  :-\ Thus such porked angles.
