That last pic really reveals just how much the forward view was improved with the F4F! Indeed, the Wildcat's rakish slant on the cowling results in one of the very best views for high angle deflection shots.

The F3f and the pre war helldiver would make great additions for a 1939/40 war with Japan.

Yeah thats pretty much what I was thinking, roleplay wise, or maybe some early lend lease type stuff or other alternate history.

This footage from thirties shows F3F-2 being tested.

At 0:58 test pilot Lee Gehlback shows the Coffman starter cartridge being loaded.
