Great Barrier Reef 95 percent complete with 60 percent complete of The Torres Straits.

Update shortly for this :D a day or so

After Laos a final update for some of the West Coast and Torres Strait detailing.

The RAAF Liberator crews had been bitching and moaning about taking off from Claudie 1 as they trim the bush with their props.

It was a pretty hazardous take off so the squadron commander called the Seabees in to extend the runway and clear the bush.

Naturally a bit of bribery took place and if the Seabees did the job the Aussie Liberator crews would put on a great Aussie barbie/piss up for them.

The Seabees completed the job and they were all buggered.

Meanwhile the RAAF Liberator crews trapped a bush pig for the chops and got some snags flown in from Cairns. Mind you a lot of snags.

The most important item was lacking 4X beer.

The Seabees new some USN pilots up at Horn Island and they got them to bribe the RAAF Quarter Master for a lot of cases of 4x beer.
 
It was a VID (very important delivery) to Iron Range.

As the pilots flew over The Great Barrier Reef they talked about fishing.

Upon the Ducks arrival at Iron Range The Liberator crews and Seabees pitched in to unload the heavily laden Ducks. A great Aussie barbie and a relaxing afternoon's piss up was enjoyed by all.








UPDATE 30/06/2015

The Great Barrier Reef is 99 percent complete. There are a few squares left but have been looking at map_T for most of the day and my eyes need a rest.  ;D

I am using a reef map for the Torres Strait and my own creativity for The Great Barrier Reef.

i'd love to test your reef textures.

No rush for them as yet I am in Laos for about 9 days.  :D (please send to me in a week or so by PM)

If your marine animals are up to your own super quality artsy standard please add a little download link for all to enjoy  :D

For PNG later on we'd need an Iguanadon, a Ropen (flying Pterodactylus that glows in the night sky apparently nocturnal) and a Ri (PNG Mermaid)

Upon looking at some docs about The Ropen apparently a US service man sighted one in 1944 just up on the hills from Finch Haven.

First screenie I can see a cool shipwreck at the bottom left hand corner with possibly a shark swimming by just some of the shipwreck to the right.

Second screenie I can see a number of Hammerheads and I think a whale tail as well (Sure hope it is NOT a mermaid or she could be in trouble)  ;D

Glad you like it Kirby. I have been painting and testing a number of skin files for a few years now just
to add more details to the maps. Its a very difficult testing process because all the skin files must have the
 proper coloring and all be seamless in the game. Even though they are seamless, they must look natural.
Otherwise, its just an endless repeated image which does not look too natural to the eyes. So they
must be "natural" looking as possible.

The image you see with the ship is actually our new Ship 3d-model "Schooner" which has been downsized a
 little bit. It is out of water.
The sharks in the water are Hammer-heads. The most common species on the planet according to the oceanic specialists.
I have already tested doing a ship-wreck on the skins, which looks great, but the repeated skins in the game maps
make it look as if there are a number of shipwrecks for every 150 yards   :D
So they cannot be used in the game. It will look silly.
So the best I can do and to make it look more "natural" is to paint sea creatures in a random style on the skin
so they look like the real thing.
All of them have the proper size. So they are very very small on the skin, but look much bigger in the game because of
the waters reflection and magnification.

For underwater sea dunes, you can also test in your game using Desert map dune textures. They will look perfect and
very natural. The only changes needed to them is to be color corrected to look like they are underwater and not in a desert.

**** NEW UPDATE ****
July 10, 2015

Here is what is included:

#1)  Improved the look of Lake Dakataua.  This was required because I made a mistake the last time.  Hard to believe, I know  ;)  What happened was that I didn’t know on-line maps look different in the “map” view as opposed to the “Satellite” view.  The map view is cleaner but it is also incorrect.  When I looked at the satellite view I noticed there were much more details that were left out.  It is now corrected.



#2)  And speaking of on-line map views looking different, I found several Islands that looked like one island on this map when they were actually two separate islands in reality.  I separated the islands and labeled them.

#3)  I textured/re-textured many areas of the map that needed it.  Tomcat Zombie stated that he initially only textured the Northern area of PNG up to Wewak so I expanded the texturing all over the map including all those islands (Aghh!) with the only exception being Australia.  Kirby knows better than I do what that area should look like.  If it needs to be changed, Kirby will handle it.

#4)  Cleaned up the hundreds of rivers on this map by removing trees that inadvertently were in the rivers.  I may have missed some but I’m sure I got most of them!

#5)  Added three major rivers in North Eastern New Britain, the Keravat, Warongoi and Warabu Rivers.



#6)  Added two major rivers in Southern New Ireland, the Kamdaru and Weitin Rivers.

#7)  Added Rabaul to the map!  Something I’ve wanted to do from day one.



#8)  Added three new Rabaul airfields (Lakunai, Rapopo and Tobera) and edited the existing airfield (Vunakanau).  I had to edit Vunakanau since it would not allow use of both runways.  It had that takeoff and landing waypoint switching bug I described in an earlier update.






Please note:  I did not add the Keravat Airfield to this map because it was not built until September 1943 and the first unit wasn’t based there until mid December 1943.  This map represents the Summer of 1943 timeframe.

INSTALLATION:
You will need to have downloaded the previous updates to this map to be sure you have all the required textures.  This download does not included the "_Tex" folder since I did not add any new textures.  Decompress the download file and then copy and overwrite everything in the “Fw_PNG” folder on top of your current “Fw_PNG” folder.  (Make a backup first just in case)

As always, if anyone finds a problem or has a request, please post here and I will try my best to address/correct the issue.
