Hi Farang,

Of course, you can can do whatever you want with this map.
Even a single object added will bring it toward its completion. And that's what I hope for ;D

Well,
After really checking out Tomcat's wonderful Full Area map having a look at Northern Australia.
I saw some great potential there to help out and add all the airfields in the north and some docking facilities.
For the past few days it has been Thai New Year here so no work just play so to speak.  :D
After getting in depth with Tomcat's area of Far North Queensland the strips as follows are starting from the bottom of North Queensland
Coen
Iron Range (Gordon, New Claude, Old Claude)
Higgins / Jacky Jacky Field (Bamaga)
Horn Island

The Ferry Route
You can easily fly into Coen have a pissup that night then fly to Horn Island have a pissup that evening then fly to Moresby the next day where all hell breaks loose.

Hiddens Field
This field was mainly established for B-26's

Iron Range (Gordon, New Claude, Old Claude)
While researching this multi strip site there were 48 B-24's the early type with the full glass nose stationed there for bombing missions into PNG and beyond Rabaul.

Coen
Was also used as a secondary return landing strip instead of the usual Horn Island strip.

Horn Island
A double cross style strip bitchumen mainly had A-20's, Hudsons and P-40's

I have finished Coen, Hiddens, and Horn Island strips. Completing Iron Range strips shortly,
testing as I complete one strip.
Should be ready on week end or so for a download link.
Just a small contribution from me to see Far North Australia in the action.
I've kept the strips to an in game texture quality.

Am using Queensland Airfields WW2 50 Years On by Roger R Marks :D

Uploading update on the weekend  :D

Cheers

Well progress so far,
Horn Island double strip tested thoroughly good to go  ;D
Higgens, Jacky Jacky Aerodrome tested thoroughly good to go  ;D
Coen Aerodrome tested thoroughly good to go  ;D
The Coen township was located about 13 kms further south of the drome.
( I'd advise to use empty aircraft as this field was for the ferry route and returning from missions. You'll go off the runway some if you are loaded up)

Iron Range
Completing this massive complex over the next couple of days. I have tested Claudie 1 and 2.I still have to test Gordon. Add lots of taxiway/roads and about 60 or so aircraft bays considering there were 48 B-24's and some B-26's there for good measure as well.  :D
Once the Iron Range complex is thoroughly detailed and tested will upload. Just taking a tad longer due to the complexity of the Iron Range area.

I am doing this small contribution firstly for the SAS community and Mr. Campaign Master SAS~ Poltava to spur on some more campaigns.  :D

Cheers

Farang, great to see someone upgrading this map!  I can't wait for the download link...  The New Guinea city and towns could use some buildings created and I wish I could help with this effort but I don't know anything about modifying maps.  I am, however, currently building a campaign that will make great use of this map!

Well here's a small contribution to get Far North Queensland and The Torres Strait in to the war.
There are 8 NEW airfields from Torres Strait to Coen.

Horn Island the long strip twins Beauforts etc the shorter fighter strip IN PAIRS ONLY (if single you will drown)which is why I widened the runway some.

Coen please use aircraft empty as it was a stop over for the ferry flight to Moresby and an alternative mission return landing site.

I tested all other strips in Single line (default) (4 aircraft) some empty such as at Coen and other aircraft at Gordon, Claudie 1 and 2 were all bombed up and ready to go for a mission to PNG.

Some objects placed at Horn island, a jetty at Thursday island and another jetty at Iron Range.
The map needed a bridge so placed one near Iron Range (country).

The Americans built the original Bruce Highway from Brisbane to Cairns so they may have been thinking about a road from Iron Range to Cook Town.

Please check the photo above as to what you get
Replace the map_h, actors static, texts and labels with Tomcat's original map folder. Just over write and you will have 8 NEW and thoroughly tested airfields.

With Iron Range I haven't worked with heavies for a long time I did final testing this morning with 4 B-24s taking off from each strip Gordon, Claudie 1 and 2 and had 12 B-24s coming in to land on each strip easy peasy even though it was such a big complex to make.  :D

Thanks to Rawners for his B-26 and Riken for his glass nose early B-24  ;D

I am playing around with tracks (roads) etc but still have to check all my textures for my 4.12 version.

Used mostly stock airfield plates and some Darwin objects.

Cheers

Kirby, first, thank you for your efforts!!!  I did notice something about the Claudie 1 and Claudie 2 airstrips.  The taxiways and the runways are different lengths (maybe that's correct - I don't know) and the second airfield at Claudie 1 (the one on the left) has a misaligned runway at the Southeast end.  Not being critical, just a few observations.  Thanks!

Yes a different width at Claudie 2 the taxi way almost a double taxi width as from a photo it was quite wide all the other taxi ways normal width.
The area was made from a double photo in the book Queensland's WW2 Airfields 50 years on as was all other airfields.
Yesterday did some final last minute adjustments to Claudie 1 and 2 will check today.  :D
Initially I had side parking on both but removed.
I also had to extend the three strips some for bombed up B-24's just so you wouldn't by taking off in the dirt. ;)

For those that are interested I left Iron Range fairly bare the strips were just cut out of the scrub/rainforest all the bare areas need to be filed with trees and along each side of the strips.

It was pretty hazardous landing on some of the strips. Try it in poor weather  :D

Kirby

Yes I see a small break in Claude 1 and will tighten up both Claude 1 and 2 strips just to by safe  :D

https://www.mediafire.com/download/dvuzhezo1wp4m3c/Actorsstaticupdate.7z

Rewrite this actors static with current one.  :D

Tightened up Claudie 1 strip and side parking on both Claudie 1 and 2 strips.
Added some more objects some blast pens and started on treeing the area around Claude 1.
Use what ever trees you like you can easily replace mine.

Make sure to keep the area in front of Gordon cleared up to where I have it for the heavies NOT to crash into trees.  8)

Didn't do anything yesterday it was 'kin 41 degrees C sshheeww

Thanks Kirby!  Wow, 41 degrees C.  It was a whopping 16 degrees C/61 degrees F here where I live in Pennsylvania, USA  :P  I did manage to find a tutorial on-line about map making.  Looks pretty involved but I might give it a shot.  I would at least like to know enough to be able to make changes/improvements to existing maps.

Chaps, be mindful with the ed map files, I noticed they are huge, you can downsize them in gimp by indexing them and saving them without compression. BTW also a tip vpmedia gave me recently when I had troubles loading a map.
