Sounds good.  I'm just anxious to get started with my changes that have been promised and some that I would like to make.

A New Texture Update ;D

Here is a new texture update with five textures in all added to the map.

Mark shallows New Georgia G
Avala beach rock texture
Kirby two new textures from Oz
Thierry new sky texture from his recent pack 4

With this update you get the following
a new map_c and map_c table
a map_c tga photo image
the above textures

Over write everything in the maps folder and add the textures as set out using the same filing method

Things you will notice
Dry river beds no rivers as yet
No shallows or reefs as yet.
The textures are still liney even though I was using the clone tool during this week a lot.  ;D
I will tinker around with them some more as I miss a program called Pix Plant. That program does help with the repeating lines.
once I get that program again I'll play around more so with the textures.

Concerning rivers and reefs
T_Z supplied the original map_c tga photo  ;D and for me it is a very unusual and cantankerous map_c to work with.
I have not seen a map_c like this before so an all new experience for me.  ;D
Initially when I did the initial river work in Cape York Peninsula it all looked good then looking at PNG it did not look good rivers in PNG were broken up or missing  :o I didn't want this as the rivers in PNG are AWESOME  :D

Uzin came up with the idea to flatten the new compiled tga from the map_c tool box.

This worked initially and everything seemed back to normal in PNG AWESOME rivers  :D
Lately,I have messed around with layers of rivers and shallows and reefs and it seems that it wont let you do anything on top of the flattened recompiled map_c Examples shallows and reefs look squared off or triangular not like a normal shallows and reefs layer at all.

I'll play around with it over the next month or so.
There is always something new to learn in IL-2  ;D

I also did a little coast line texture detailing in PNG using only lowland1. As a reminder I used a light brown airfield texture for Allies , a grass texture for Axis and a dark brown texture in Aus  ;D

Finally Northern Australia is in the war. The area is just finishing the dry season and rivers should be flowing soon with the wet season or normally called 'The Big Wet'  ;D

Some very interesting reading a really good site

Cheers

Thanks for your efforts Kirby!  Outstanding as usual!  Take a well deserved break but please don't stop!  ;)

In the meantime, to those that have requested changes, I will now begin making those changes and keep you posted here...

**** NEW UPDATE ****
June 1, 2015

Here is what is included:
1)    The Kokoda airfield has been updated so that aircraft can takeoff and land in both directions.  Using real photos of the area, I was able to terraform the mountains around the Kokoda airfield and provide enough room for the AI to now use this airfield.  I tried very hard to not change the surrounding landscape any more than required.  I was able to keep the mountain ranges very similar to the way they were originally by sort of, narrowing the mountains to provide some extra airspace directly surrounding the airfield.
In the download archive you will find two simple test missions for this airfield that I created if you would like to try them out.

2)   The area behind the Northwest end of the LAE runway was modified to allow aircraft to land from that direction.  Again, the surrounding area was only changed minimally as required.

3)  Similar to the LAE problem above, I modified the area behind the West end of the Gordon runway to allow for landings from that direction.

4)  Numerous airfields around the map were modified to include added waypoints and taxi points allowing for multi-directional takeoffs and landings.

NOTE:   There seems to be a problem with the AI when it comes to airfields with crossed runways.  I have experienced the problem myself and have asked around on the forums and according to my replies, everyone seems to agree it’s an inherent problem with IL2.  What happens is that waypoints placed on runways will sometimes move (snap) to an adjacent runway during mission creation.  The problem occurs when you have 4 waypoints, one at each end of the crossed runways.  However, the problem can be minimized by using only 3 waypoints.  That means you won’t allow the AI to land from one of the four directions but the other three will work fine.  So, that is what I did.  I read on the internet one time (so it must be true!) that the busiest runways are normally those that are facing East & West due to prevailing winds.  I tried to make sure that all crossed runways had waypoints on their East & West ends and then through trial and error, selected the best spot for the third waypoint.

While, I also made an effort to modify the WAU airfield surrounding area to allow AI aircraft to takeoff and land, it is not included in this update.  Without significantly changing the surrounding mountains (almost completely removing them) it was unsuccessful.  The AI is like a spoiled little child, the more room you give it, the more it takes.  So, rather than make a major modification of this type to the map, I decided not to make the change.  You can still land at WAU from the North if you need an emergency runway or use the nearby Bulolo airstrip.

INSTALLATION:
You will need to have already installed the previous map update from SAS~farang65 from May 28, 2015 since I have included some of the new textures in my update.  Decompress the download file and then copy and overwrite everything in the “Fw_PNG” folder on top of your current “Fw_PNG” folder.  (Make a backup first just in case)
If you are interested in the two test flights, just add the two “.mis” files to your Missions/Single/US/P-38 folder.  If not, you don't need them.

Even though I was all over the map, there is no way that I checked all or even most of the airfields.  If anyone finds a problem or has a request, please post here and I will try my best to address/correct the issue.  I am a big fan of this map and I just want it to become the best that it can!

Just thought I would provide a little update...  Earlier today, IL2 V4.13 was released and it includes 4 map versions of this area of the world.

Here is what is included:

New Britain, New Guinea (March 1943)
New Britain, New Guinea (September 1943)
New Britain, New Guinea (January 1944)
New Britain, New Guinea (June 1944)

The maps were created by Team Pacific and the scale is 3:4.

Unfortunately, these maps do not include any of the major Allied airstrips...  No Milne Bay, Port Moresby or Northern Australia.  No disrespect to Team Pacific.  These maps are very nice!  But, I think our map is still something worth continuing our efforts on...

I am currently making some updates to this map so look for something in a few days!

Just a quick update...

I thought I would have a new update ready by now but I have one thing remaining to complete and it's fighting me!  Hopefully, both SAS~farang65 and I will have new updates to provide soon...

**** NEW UPDATE ****
June 14, 2015

Here is what is included:
1)  Lot's and lot's of small changes such as the addition of Island names.

2)  Cleaned up more airfields and taxi waypoints so they are useable by the AI.

3)  Texture changes on some airfields.

4)  Added Lake Dakataua inside the dormant volcano in the Central-Northern tip of New Britain.

DOWNLOAD LINK:

INSTALLATION:
You will need to have downloaded the previous textures update to this map by SAS~farang65 in "Reply #87" to be sure you have all the required textures.  This download does not included the "_Tex" folder since I did not add any new textures.  Decompress the download file and then copy and overwrite everything in the “Fw_PNG” folder on top of your current “Fw_PNG” folder.  (Make a backup first just in case)

I would like to send out a big THANK YOU to Kirby (SAS~farang65 ) who provided a lot of his knowledge and time to help educate me about some of the finer points of map making.  I was able to make a lot of 1st time manipulations to this map with his help!

As always, if anyone finds a problem or has a request, please post here and I will try my best to address/correct the issue.

Dennis

****EDIT - June 16, 2015****
The complete updated file installation for this map has been added to the first post!
