Imho theres a max object limit, once you exceed that the game engine cant handle it. Better hardware helps but not an ultimate solution. Of course if you got the best hardware available you wont notice the fps drops as much as me on the i3. :)

I agree the problem has to be with the software if your computer can run newer and more demanding games than IL-2. Perhaps Team Diadolos could look at a patch that improves performance on modern computers?

Your frame rates are fine.
You're trying to fix something that ain't broken.
We all get frame drops when we fly low lever over berlin and look around on externals.

Sorry, I should have posted my settings.
I could increase my fps by using texture compression, lowering vis. distance, landgeom, water
and forrest parameters to 2.

Code: [Select]
[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=3
TexMipFilter=3
TexCompress=0
TexFlags.UseDither=1
TexFlags.UseAlpha=0
TexFlags.UseIndex=0
TexFlags.PolygonStipple=0
TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=1
TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1
TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1
TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0
TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1
TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1
TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1
TexFlags.ClipHintExt=1
TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=1
TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1
TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=0

TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=2
Specular=3
SpecularLight=2
DiffuseLight=2
DynamicalLights=1
MeshDetail=2
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=2
Forest=3
LandShading=3
LandDetails=2

LandGeom=3
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1

VideoSetupId=17
Water=3
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=0

PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15
PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0

For me the 4 fps over Berlin on a GTX770 sounds too low.
If I were you I'd compare my Modact and CUP fps in two different installs.
I dont have CUP so I cant help with that unfortunately.

I remembered one more thing, when I've set supersampling for 'Antialiasing-transparency' in the Nvidia control panel, that had quite big impact on the games performance.

There's nothing broken still he should try to fix it?
I don't get it, but apparently that's unimportant.
Have fun "tweaking". If you need something to keep you busy, you've found it now.

If I'd have 4 fps over Berlin I'd try to fix it. :)
I only suggested comparing modact and CUP framerates, because there must be a reason for his 4 fps over Berlins vs my 20-24 fps meanwhile I'm to one with the weaker graphics card.

I did not say that you're wrong. You're input is useful and hope for it in the future.

It's just that I've seen an error report when CUP was in the TFM-412 phase, where a user showed it with screenshots that he is getting around 20 fps in the TFM-412 FMB vs the much higher fps in HSFX7. Hence I suspect that CUP has some bug which effects the framerates.
The comparsion I suggested can give the answer to that question.

I suspect that CUP has some bug which effects the framerates.
For some reason CUP cut my framerates by half as well, I tried everything, from dropping visual settings to buying additional 2GB of RAM and as for now, nothing worked.
I am guessing there is some conflict in between CUP mods and I am not the only one with those issues.
I even managed to get a hint of what it could be but, without CUP dev team input, it is difficult to tell anything.

Later I want to ask CUP dev team what mods they included (not counting planes and maps) and ask them for cooperation in searching for conflict.

We all know that there's some imaginary "hard limit" on the number of objects being available for the game and once that limit gets exceeded, framerates drop significantly.
However now that the CUP dev team intentionally divided the available content into several big chunks exactly to avoid this limit, I strongly doubt that this is related at all.
Rather additionally installed mods might cause issues, but you never know until you run it "real clean".

Since that "hard limit" hits on a different number of objects (aircraft seem to play the biggest role), it's hard to tell when it will hit whom.
However we know where it is at approximately (e.g. DBW 1.71 + 50 mod aircraft on top, that's it roughly) and every CUP module on it's own is far from that limit.

If it were a general CUP issue we would have much more reports about FPS issues.

By that limit I mean the object density in a map square.
I noticed this while building missions, later when editing maps.

The other issue I already reported is with the mat files of many objects (Wflyer vehicles + tomoose airfield objects, part of CUP).  I test everything in the FMB with the fps counter running. If theres a problem you'll see a drop. These need to be corrected in their mat files:
tfDoubleSide 1 to 0
tfShouldSort 1 to 0
tfMipMap 1 to 0

I would rather play than tweak however playing is difficult when your game is a slideshow. Thanks for your advice Mike it is appreciated but I do not accept frame rates this low in a game as it kills immersion and playability. As I said before there is nothing wrong with low frame rates as long as they stay around or above 30 FPS (like yours). The only tweaking i will do is test my frame rates in another Mod pack. I would really like to test the Berlin map in the Standard 4.12.2m game. If i cannot find a playable version of IL-2 it will be retired to the shelf permanently as this is will be my second attempt at playing this game and I am done with tweaking.

I was wondering if anyone tried my test track? https://www.mediafire.com/download/5918t6mk6rlvs22/My_Test.ntrk FF to the 4 minute mark and you will find the part that stutters for me over the buildings and using external views.

[Edit] Also I forgot to mention that stutter also occurs in cockpit when using zoomed views such as gun-sight mode. I wonder how we are supposed to shoot anything down.
