Some historians say that it was Hermann Goering who first had the original idea for this type of airplane ...

... while he was sitting on the toilet taking a shit one day.

For me the Mistel wasn't practical in any way shape or form! It was again another attempt at ''Wunderwaffe'' Weapons....the Mistel from what I read from multiple sources was quite a b**** to maintain and to EVEN organise its takeoff, as there was so much weight on the bomber with the added fighter they had to sweep clean the runway....otherwise the tires would burst on the 88....NUTS!

Even when this mad machine got in the air it was so slow and vunerable that our fighters could just pick it off like a dying fly on a white carpet! Easy to spot...easy to shoot.

But because of their randomness I can give them their novelty in terms of grafting a 1000lb warhead into a bomber nose with the fighter as a guider! They were used on the Oder front in 1945 during operation ''Wehrwolf'' which was the last Luftwaffe offensive and as concluded on Milva the operation was a failure.

In IL2 you can command the bomber but only when its attached to the fighter. When the 88 bomb is released it just goes its own way...whereas I read I believe on AAA that the Mistel could be controlled from the fighter even if it had been disconnected. I guess that might be a mod to make in the future possibly?...

But overall the idea is crazy as the scientists and designers were. But they often say the most maddest of people are the geniuses of most creations we have today. The Mistel was of course the starting point of the cruise missile and the drone we have today along with the V-1 and V-2 programs.
