Hi Rebels!
I'm in the process to update some French campaigns of mine and, being eventually successful to have a working install of IES Dewoitine, I wonder what would be best choice between the two currently available. I briefly sketch my experience about with pros and cons:
1). Gorgeous inside and perhaps more proportioned outside, IES model has better default skin. Slightly worse (but more historical) performance, has the bad habit to be unrecoverable from an high-speed dive. A resource hog, required to free 256 MB of RAM on my low-end PC (reduced EXE) just not to crash, and still "stutters" in internal view. From my personal point of view, if extended in use to all campaigns of mine, would require complete redoing of skins, that, although with the help of excellent Arsenal's template, I wonder if I will be able to perform.
2). Definitely more manageable in all respects, Ranwers D.520 also allows individual numbering. Of course, this choice would mean "leave as is", since Ranwers Dewoitine is already in those campaigns (but would be a clue for other campaign-makers interested).
3). It would be possible to set both plane models in each campaign, leaving to player the choice of which he will fly. Obviously, being unavoidable the random presence of both in same mission (although not in same flight), would be quite odd to see at same time two different kind of the French fighter.
4) and 5). To avoid to take myself too seriously, I wanted to add in brackets to the two last options even a few humorous answers to my countrymen.
Thanks for your attention,
GB
