I apologize for my previous comment that I deleted about the “noise” of textures. This was the problem for me .. :-[

Whistler,

I'm going to try out Random Skies on my BAT 3.8.3 install. (Looks awesome, by the way!) Before I do, can you confirm that it's fully compatible with Clouds_New_HD_v3, which I have enabled in JSGME? I've already enabled the four DEF-SKIES_#XXX.

One tip about Random Skies for those who seem not to be able to get it to work: set its properties to "Run as Administrator".

Everything seemed to be working with mine, except for two things: It would not launch Il-2 Selector; and it would not launch BAT. After a few days scratching my head, I finally thought of admin rights. I set the property of the exe to "Run as Admiistrator", and now it launches both properly.

This isn't mentioned in either the ReadMe.txt or in the release notes in this thread. Might be useful for any others who did not realise the need.

Yes. Ramdon Skies will eventually overwrite sky textures DESPERAUX might have included in his cloud mods.

Thanks Strawkalling. Was your game located in the "Program Files" folder, by chance?

No, I have it in a folder off the root of my C drive.

~ DESPEREAUX Top20 Skies ~ (download at the bottom)

My dear DESPEREAUX ,

I have reviewed many (all?) of the sky textures you published these past months, and while I appreciate the effort A LOT - the more options, the merrier - I am sorry to say many aren't up to (my) standards. Constructive criticism ahead, I know you can take it ;)

1) Some textures just don't look good in-game: either because skies are too dramatic or too cartoonish, imho.

Sat images, seriously? ;D

2) Many, and I mean way too many skies aren't seamless. This is a shame because many textures look pretty good but had to be discarded. Here are a couple of examples:

3) Some textures have artifacts and/or the source is of very low resolution, here is a sample:

We spend most of the time airborne looking for points of reference in the skies or scanning the skies for enemies and therefore sky textures must be almost perfect, otherwise immersion is gone the moment your detect and artifact or something that doesn't look good or right.

PS: st_DS_N_6.tga causes a CTD because of the wrong size.

HOWEVER.......

DESPEREAUX produced lots of textures and some look great and add interesting new layers to the set of textures we already have and I selected 20 DESPERAUX skies that should be part of every Random Skies install. Get them below!

DESPERAUX_Top20_Skies.zip

Thanks DESPERAUX for your work, I truly appreciate the effort! 8)
