Junkers Ju-488
« on: July 25, 2015, 11:30:01 PM »

Excuse me, everyone.

I have another request for an aircraft. That aircraft is the Junkers Ju-488A (or the Ju-488 V3). As usual, the two pictures from Marek Rys' German Air Projects: 1935-1945: Vol. 3: Bombers (2007), that I took with my PlayStation Vita yesterday, are below:

According to the same book, its "armament [would consist] of two 20mm MG 151/20 cannon in a remotely-controlled turret on top of the rear fuselage and two 13mm MG 131 machine guns in a remotely-controlled tail position.

Also according to Marek Rys' German Air Projects: 1935-1945: Vol. 3: Bombers (2007), the specifications are as follows:

Code: [Select]
Wingspan: 102.65 ft (31.29 meters)
Length: 76.24 ft (23.24 meters)
Height: 23.29 ft (7.10 meters)
Wing area: 947.25 square feet (88.00 square meters)
Maximum weight: 79,366 lb (36,000 kg)
Powerplant: 4x Jumo 222A/B-3 24-cylinder liquid cooled in-line engine, 2,500 hp (1,864 kW) each
Top speed: 429 mph (690 km/h)
Ceiling: 37,237 ft (11,350 meters)
Range: 2,796 miles (4,500 km)

I do not know if this aircraft was requested already, so if it was, then I am sorry, and I hope you can forgive me. It's just that I did not see the "Junkers Ju-488" in the Google custom search box. Again, thank you for your time.

I don't know.  I don't know.
It looks too big.
It might not land on our little runways  ;D

Does that look like 4 landing wheels?
Must be too heavy. Toooo heavy. Must remove the beer refrigerator from the cockpit before take-off.
Well, there goes another airplane idea that was no fun to fly for the Luftwaffe. NO Beer in the cockpit!  :(

  • Landing just means stop flying, right?

Its not too big, the B-29 is 39 feet wider and 23 feet longer. I think they did the 4 main gear so that the stresses of landing would be more evenly distributed across the wing because the wing wasn't as strong due to the whole "late war material" that plagued most of the German designs. Would love to see this in game though, +1.

Most definitely. I would like to fly this thing into an American bomber formation and have my gunners decimate the opposition. Sounds like a stupid idea, I know, but whenever I fly bombers in missions, I always go after the fighters.

Would love to see this in game.

+1

Sincerely,

James

You want to sit in the middle of an american bomber formation with just 4 guns in your hands?
Consider grabbing your chute in time.

No Mike, I want to modify it a little, then do that. Mabey I could add some jet pods to the wings and a couple more guns, preferably forward facing and fixed so I could earn some medals for bravery.  ;D

According to the book " Luftwaffe Secret Projects - strategic bombers 1935 - 1945 " by Herwig and Rode, assembly of the first two prototypes began in September 1944. By utilising components from each of the Ju 88, Ju 188, Ju 288 and Ju 388 models.
Maybe the mod gods may think this may be an easy jig saw puzzle ! 🤓🤔
