Jet-friendly maps ?
« on: August 05, 2015, 07:51:46 AM »

Hello all !
I don't know where to post this, so I try in the New Member Safety Area...I'm sorry if I misplaced it.

Well, I've been playing IL2 1946 for 8 years, and since 4 years ago, I'm flying jets, let's say... 80% of the time. The 20% on props planes are when I fly props in jets scenarios of early jet age, or when I fancy some early 30s flying.

So my main problem in IL2 1946 is finding some "jet friendly" maps. I mean, maps that have mostly concrete runways, and long enough to be able to land a MiG 21 or an F16 without having to smash my "brakes" button, or taking off in a fully laden F-84G1 without having to leave stains in the pants. Or with other usefull features for jet flyers, like modern (1950 and beyond) buildings, for example.

I can sometime find these maps (mostly Vietnam maps, actually), but sometimes, I also stumble upon disapointment when for example I've downloaded the India-Pakistan wars map and found only dust runways. Don't get me wrong, this map is really usefull for the 1948 conflit and beautifull to look, but for jets, there's not much to do. There's not very much ways to know if a map could have concrete runways before DL it, excepted when it's obvious like "Serbia 1941" or something like that.

How about making a "jet friendly" tag for maps ? Just like the "4.xx" tags or something. There could also be a "1916 friendly" tag for people that are about WWI. So that everyone could easily find maps that suits the era.

Have a good day !

My personal listing-up.

- El Sal Honic
1x 2200m, 2x 1900m, 4x 1600m concrete runways

- BB_North_Vietnam_51st
3x 2000m concrete runways
some 1500m concrete runways

- PS_South_VietNam_1968
4x 2000m concrete wide runways
some 1500m concrete runways

- PS_South_VietNam
3x 2000m concrete runways
some 1500m concrete runways

- LapLand Jet
1x 2000m , 2x 1600m concrete runways

- Korea (KGB)
8x 2000m concrete runways
But starting line-up points are moved to the center of the runways, the validity lengths are shorter than thier visuals in runway starting waypoints in FMB.

Many 1700m concrete runways

1x 1600m concrete runway

- Reno_Red
1x 1600m  concrete runway in the map center

At least Alaskas Mods have a tag: JWV.
